Maine Joins the rest of New England in prohibiting discrimination based on orientationMaine voters reversed themselves on a contentious issue Tuesday by embracing the state's new anti-discrimination law, giving supporters of gay rights a convincing referendum win after two previous losses.
The law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment, housing, public accommodations, credit and education. It defines sexual orientation as "a person's actual or perceived heterosexuality, bisexuality, homosexuality or gender identity or expression."
At last, a law that protects heterosexuals by class.Voters who backed the law said they did so because discrimination is wrong, regardless of the basis for it.
