Male circumcision: A poll.

Religious obligation. That's about it, AFAICT.
That, and blind tradition.
So... I know that 6 votes probably isn't enough for a decent confidence interval, but I do think it's interesting that so far, the only respondents who have said that they don't have an issue with circumcision are circumcised themselves.

When I was a young circumcised boy I regularly went to a public swimming pool where a lot of the other kids changed in and out of their swimming suits in the large common area rather than bother with the semi enclosed changing "rooms" that lined one of the walls. Almost all of us were circumcised, but every once in a while we'd spot an uncircumcised kid, who commonly came from one of poorer families. Right or wrong, we sometimes came to sympathize with their plight---"Poor Ricky, his mom and dad couldn't afford to have have him snipped"---and at worse we sometimes chuckled at how silly their penises looked. Of course I no longer sympathize with the uncircumcised, and I know that economics seldom play a part in the decision of to be or not to be, but I still regard such a penis as kind of odd looking.

You're pretty dismissive of Jews and Muslims,many of whom - although you might find this difficult to accept - are every bit as thoughtful, intelligent, and aware as you presume to be.
I'm curious why the counterposition is "wrong" and "not an issue."
Your insinuations are noted. Also noted is the telling fact that you have not -- and probably will not -- refute that blind tradition plays a role in why people have their children circumcised. But please by all means continue with your ad hominems. It makes your pathetic attack look so much more thoughtful, intelligent, and aware -- at least, in a pig's eye.

Would you say the same if the only respondents who have said they do have a problem with circumcision are uncircumcised?
personally, I don't find anything strange about people who are circumcised to be completely comfortable with it. like Skwim who find uncut penises odd looking, in the public occasion that I see an uncut penis I have a slight revulsion, its not based on religion, or even tradition, its pretty much an instinct based on aesthetics.

It played no role in my decisions nor in any of the decisions of which I am personally aware.
It has played a significant role in the decisions of many people with whom I am acquainted -- including friends and family.
Blind tradition? That strikes me as very sad.
As it does me. But such seems to have been the case in the decisions of several people with whom I have discussed the circumcision of their children.

I'm not sure if I've been circumcised... all of the pictures I've found of "circumcision" differ, so I'm not sure what a foreskin is supposed to look like.
I personally don't really care, but for the child's sake, it ought to be illegal to have a circumcision before age 18.
I notice that your poll has no option for people who DO care about circumcision but think that it's RIGHT. I know such views are odd and probably unreasonable, but we ought to include them in our polls as options.

I think it's wrong, as it's a permanent body modification without consent. It's like giving a baby a tattoo or stretching his earlobes. If someone wants to get circumcised after the age of 18, then fine with me, but I don't like the idea of doing it to someone without their consent, especially since the procedure is permanent and can lead to a worse sexlife in their adult life.
The problem with banning it, however, is that it's part of a religious tradition and thus there will be many illegal circumcisions instead, which will lead to infections, etc.
