I just love expert opinions.

No need to be slightly condescending :p. While the research on glans sensitivity is quite split, some sensitivity will be lost due to the sexual function of the foreskin. It might not matter a lot, though.

But as I said, sensitivity isn't the main reason why I'm against it.

I was afraid this would happen. I am a circumcised male, and I don't want to say that circumcision is "wrong", but nor do I want to say it is not an issue. I believe this is within the rights of the parents to make this decision, but I don't think the medical community should encourage it.

I as circumcised simply because at the time that is what was done. And I sort of wish I wasn't, but I can't say I have suffered any great harm due to it.

And to me "religious rights" play no role in my position. I support the parental rights on this one because I believe the harm is quite minimal. Conversely in the case of so called "female circumcision" I believe the harm is quite considerable and no person has the right to harm a child like that regardless of any religious or cultural nonsense.

It is not so clear cut that circumcision has medical benefit....
Circumcision - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Many of the medical benefits cited in the above article would accrue to Third World
countries & men engaging in risky sexual behavior. Would this really apply in the US?
I'm not sure why anyone would recommend circumcision for health reasons. It's said more babies die from botched circumcisions than are ever likely to contract penile cancer later in life. And the notion of touting circumcision to protect people from STDs is so monstrous I don't even want to address it.

It's done for cultural reasons. The wisdom of performing surgery on healthy babies speaks for itself.

Except that it's not. Those don't have medical benefits.
Neither does circumcision once the risks associated with it are taken into account. It's just as likely to harm the child as help him.

Edit: and by "harm the child", I'm talking about risks beyond the direct harm of inflicting pain on an infant.

Well, it looks like the sport models are winning out over the hoodies.

*Go team!*
As the poll stands now, it looks like about a third of the people with the "sport models" wish they had "hoodies". I'd hardly call that winning.

... not if the objective of this poll was to establish that boys who are circumcised as infants won't mind later in life that their parents decided to have them circumcised. A lot of them do mind, apparently.

Seems like much ado about precious little.

Too be honest, circumcision is possibly for the best, although I can't tell people to get circumcisions, I don't have one myself.

Do you 'know' or believe?
Well I was circumcised, and while I do not think it is 'wrong' per se, I do not believe it is necessary or anything other than religious or cultural reasons, and because of that, should I ever have children I will not be having any of them circumcised... if my partner were to want them circumcised I would likely try to dissuade them, quite vehemently.

Although haemorrhage and sepsis are the main causes of morbidity, the variety of complications is enormous. The literature abounds with reports of morbidity and even death as a result of circumcision.

If mutilating the genitals of healthy newborns for no legitimate medical reason doesn't count as barbaric, folks, what does?

As this forum is predominately American, where Circumcision is the norm and that many other members or Muslims or Jews, it is not surprising that most are circumcised.
I do not expect this to change any time soon.

I do not know what they do about American babies born in the UK, as few doctors know how to do it.( it is no longer taught to GP's)

I really had no idea it was an American cultural norm ? i always thought it was either religious or for some kind of medical reason.
