Mankind's rebellion against God

To an extent, of course. It is also by simple observation that children also rebel against their "superiors." Tell a child not to do something, and in many instances they won't and also in many instances they will do it with a mischievous grin on their faces.
Yes, but they (Adam and Eve) had just as much choice as we do today. There is no excuse.

If Adam and Eve were literal human beings, and the story were accepted as it is.... that wouldn't be true. They were born in paradise, a world of all good. Today, that would not be so. Many are born into decent environments, and many are born into lowsy environments. Many even born into decent environments, yet still not paradise. Clearly not the same or just.

And how do you know it's not literal to a certain extent?

I don't know, but that is beyond the point. If it were literal...to any extent, the choices aren't the same today as they were then.

On a side note... every inkling of just and good intuition within me is telling me that it is allegory, has a deeper inner meaning.

Well no you're right, they are more complex. But, it all comes down to whether or not a person will trust God or not. That's the major decision we make every day.

Rebellion against God is a very serious matter, it is the reason for no salvation. As I posted on this forum, I had a dream about the ancient times with God's chosen people. A voice said, "They didn't obey my commandments, not one single commandment." There is a ton of meaning in that quote. First, God attempted to establish a holy order with his chosen people, but, they didn't obey His commandments. Then, we have a promise of God's city sent down from heaven in Revelation 21 & 22. It is a second opportunity for humans to obey God's Commandments. Will it happen?

It seems to be such a simple idea, just "OBEY GOD."

From my dreams about heaven, I know there are no separate worlds or departments for God's creatures. There is just God and twelve angels in a circle. Satan, the thirteenth angel, attempted to separate himself (itself) from God by forming another worship circle. In the circle, Satan attacked and hurt the other angels. Subsequently God imprisoned Satan in the universe. So, we have an example of what happens when God's creatures become independent of God. Again, it seems such a simple idea, salvation depends on obeying God. When you think about it, there logic to the idea. How can there be more than one God. How do independent creatures act? Do they set up worship teams? What person or persons are in charge of setting rules for daily, or eternal, conduct. If you disobey the rules, who or what creature administers punishment? If there is no punishment or restrictions for disobedience the rule or rules, how do creatures live with one another? Oh, I got it! It must be a constitutional form of theocracy, predicated on consensus. Well, if there are rule violators, there must be a means for administering justice. How messy.

The key idea out of the dilemma is God's holiness, beauty and eternal power. Because creatures cannot match God's holiness and beauty, there is only one way for creatures to survive. It is to be in the presence of God for eternity. There is no other possibility. Only God has the power or, if you will, ability to create something. It would be a different story if God were ugly, mean spirited, and demeaning of His creatures. But God is not those things. With God, there is no other choice, either obey Him or don't exist in heaven. Again, by obeying God you accept His holiness forever.

So, where is God? I think He has assumed a policy of nonintervention. Things have not gone well on earth, God's creatures don't obey His Commandments. But it goes deeper than that. God's creatures cannot find an existence apart from God. It is all temporary. Humans live and seek their destinies, but it never seems to work out. Brilliant minds, advanced civilization, and authenticity doesn't seem to work. There is no substitute for being in the presence of God.
