Hi guys.
This is the story of Mary and jesus(peace be upon them) in quran. I do not know how is this story in bible, but I want to share with you the story of quran. Enjoy and think about it.

19: 16-36
(In the name of God, the Beneficent the Merciful)
16.
And mention in the Book (the Qur'an, O Muhammad , the story of) Maryam (Mary), when she withdrew in seclusion from her family to a place facing east.

17. She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our Ruh [angel Jibrael (Gabriel)], and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects.

18. She said: "Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah."

19. (The angel) said: "I am only a Messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son."

20. She said: "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?"

21. He said: "So (it will be), your Lord said: 'That is easy for Me (Allah): And (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to mankind and a mercy from Us (Allah), and it is a matter (already) decreed, (by Allah).' "

22. So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a far place (i.e. Bethlehem valley about 4-6 miles from Jerusalem).

23. And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a date-palm. She said: "Would that I had died before this, and had been forgotten and out of sight!"

24. Then [the babe 'Iesa (Jesus)] cried unto her from below her, saying: "Grieve not! Your Lord has provided a water stream under you;

25. "And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripe-dates upon you."

26. "So eat and drink and be glad, and if you see any human being, say(understand them): 'Verily! I have vowed a fast unto the Most Beneficent (Allah) so I shall not speak to any human being this day.'"

27. Then she brought him (the baby) to her people, carrying him. They said: "O Mary! Indeed you have brought a Strange thing.

28. "O sister of Harun (Aaron) [not the brother of Musa (Moses), but he was pious brother of Maryam (Mary)]! Your father was not a man who used to commit adultery, nor your mother was an unchaste woman."

29. Then she pointed to him(jesus). They said: "How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?"

30. "He ['Iesa (Jesus)] said: Verily! I am a slave of Allah, He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet;"

31. "And He has made me blessed wheresoever I be, and has enjoined on me Salat (prayer), and Zakat, as long as I live."

32. "And dutiful to my mother, and made me not arrogant, unblest.

33. "And Salam (peace) be upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!"

34. Such is 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). (it is) a statement of truth, about which they doubt (or dispute).

35. It befits not (the Majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son. Glorified (and Exalted be He above all that they associate with Him). When He decrees a thing, He only says to it, "Be!" and it is.

36. ['Iesa (Jesus) said]: "And verily Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him (Alone). That is the Straight Path.

If you have any questions, ask me.

If you are interested, it is similar to this passage from Pseudo-Matthew/the infancy gospel of Matthew, a 'Gospel' considered to have been written several hundred years after the canonical gospels were composed:

CHAP. 20.-- And it came to pass on the third day of their journey, while they were walking, that the blessed Mary was fatigued by the excessive heat of the sun in the desert; and seeing a palm tree, she said to Joseph: Let me rest a little under the shade of this tree. Joseph therefore made haste, and led her to the palm, and made her come down from her beast. And as the blessed Mary was sitting there, she looked up to the foliage of the palm, and saw it full of fruit, and said to Joseph: I wish it were possible to get some of the fruit of this palm. And Joseph said to her: I wonder that thou sayest this, when thou seest how high the palm tree is; and that thou thinkest of eating of its fruit. I am thinking more of the want of water, because the skins are now empty, and we have none wherewith to refresh ourselves and our cattle. Then the child Jesus, with a joyful countenance, reposing in the bosom of His mother, said to the palm: O tree, bend thy branches, and refresh my mother with thy fruit. And immediately at these words the palm bent its top down to the very feet of the blessed Mary; and they gathered from it fruit, with which they were all refreshed. And after they had gathered all its fruit, it remained bent down, waiting the order to rise from Him who bad commanded it to stoop. Then Jesus said to it: Raise thyself, O palm tree, and be strong, and be the companion of my trees, which are in the paradise of my Father; and open from thy roots a vein of water which has been hid in the earth, and let the waters flow, so that we may be satisfied from thee. And it rose up immediately, and at its root there began to come forth a spring of water exceedingly clear and cool and sparkling. And when they saw the spring of water, they rejoiced with great joy, and were satisfied, themselves and all their cattle and their beasts. Wherefore they gave thanks to God.

CHAP. 21. -- And on the day after, when they were setting out thence, and in the hour in which they began their journey, Jesus turned to the palm, and said: This privilege I give thee, O palm tree, that one of thy branches be carried away by my angels, and planted in the paradise of my Father. And this blessing I will confer upon thee, that it shall be said of all who conquer in any contest, You have attained the palm of victory. And while He was thus speaking, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared, and stood upon the palm tree; and taking off one of its branches, flew to heaven with the branch in his hand. And when they saw this, they fell on their faces, and became as it were dead. And Jesus said to them: Why are your hearts possessed with fear? Do you not know that this palm, which I have caused to be transferred to paradise, shall be prepared for all the saints in the place of delights, as it has been prepared for us in this place of the wilderness? And they were filled with joy; and being strengthened, they all rose up.

The Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew

You can find the Quranic story about Jesus and the clay birds in the 'infancy gospel of Thomas' too if you are interested in the similarities between the Quran and non-canonical Christian texts.

It is quite different than the Bible. It reminds me a little about Abraham and Agar near a stream, mixed in with the angel Gabriel and Mary, with a dash of a different understanding of "Begat" in reference to God and Jesus.

I do thank you for sharing.

Hello.:)
It is a good question.
"We" refers to God in quran. God is single and unit and if you read quran, you can feel it throughout this book. however, "We" whenever refers to God in quran, is used for three reasons(using "We" insteed of "I" has three reasons in Arabic):
1- God wants to mention anyone reading quran to his greatness;
2-and/or to refer to greatness of his work;
3-and/or draw attention to the means which he has put them to do a work.Such as angels, wind that moves clouds and condenses them to rain(15: 22 "And We send the winds fertilizing (to fill heavily the clouds with water), then caused the water (rain) to descend from the sky"), and so on. But these means work with permission and power of God.

I think that in the verse of your question(17), God wants to mention his power, greatness of Ruh(Jibrael) and existence of a means for conversation of God with Mary(Jibrael).
Thanks for your good question.

The 1st person plural is also used in the Bible (at least once anyway, no idea if it is used in other places):

"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" Genesis 1:26

The word for God in many places is the word "Elohim" - and it is plural yet singular.

Deut 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

The Lord (singular) our God (plural) is one (singular) Lord (singular0

In the Christian understanding, man is singular yet plural. Spirit, Soul and Body. Three parts, one being. Likewise, Christians believe in one God (singular) yet plural in formation (Father, The Word and His Spirit) as stipulated in other Jewish scriptures.

Hi.
Muslims believe that God doesn't have any parts. Having parts is one of creatures traits. So, because God is creator, he dosn't have parts.
Also, anything that has parts, needs his parts. For instance, man has sprit, soul and body. This means that man needs sprit, soul and body(his parts). So, if God has parts, he needs his parts. But, God is who doesn't need anything. God is intrinsically rich and needless.Consequently,God hasn't any parts.
Quran, 35: 15 "O mankind! it is you who stand in need of Allah, but Allah is Rich (Free of all wants and needs), Worthy of all praise.".

Yes, I am aware of this position. However, none of us really know what God can do, what He cannot do. Certainly being everywhere at all times, is mind boggling in and of itself

As I view it, a painter expresses who he is by the painting he paints. When God said, "Let us make man in our image, and in our likeness", I believe that He painted a picture that helps us understand Him better. It may not be a complete understanding, but it is an expression of His greatness.

Like the world we see, the beauty, the creativity. It is a picture of His greatness and who He is. Certainly, He placed that creativity into man as we also attempt to create beauty. (Obviously, there are men/women who don't express that as they follow a different spirit.)

I believe God is love. A love that doesn't need anything but want to give it all to someone and so He poured out His love to us and into us and thus, mankind who is created in His image and likeness, has to capacity to express that same love. Not a love that takes from another but rather a love that simply wants to give.

Muslims believe that God can do everything and I think it is not an unbelievable position. Because who has created univers, Eden, Hell, angles, humans, time, space and so on, which are very complex in and of themselves, can do everything(Quran, 36: 81, 82 " 81. Is not He, Who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the like of them? Yes, indeed! He is the All-Knowing Supreme Creator.82. Verily, His Command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, "Be!" and it is! ").
God has created place and time.So He doesn't have a place or time. But becuse He has created us and all things, and has given existence to us, He is surrounding all things existentially(Holly Quran, 41: 54 " Verily! He it is Who is surrounding all things "). Because of this it is said that God is everywhere at all times(Quran, 57: 4 " He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days(periods), and is moreover firmly established on the Throne (of Authority). He knows what enters within the earth and what comes forth out of it, what comes down from heaven and what mounts up to it. And He is with you wheresoever you may be. And Allah sees well all that you do ").

The Spirit of God? If God is a Spirit according to John 4:24, then God of God, or Spirit of Spirit.

However, understanding that the eternal God is LIGHT, then in Genesis the Gods [Elohim] created the heaven and the earth, being the Spirit and the Word of the eternal God. Since the term eternal has no beginning nor end, hence in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Such a the term 'man', in Genesis 5:2 one will find that male and female are man. And the man and his wife shall be one flesh

In the NT this also demonstrated in 1 John 5:7, The Father [God the Spirit], The Word, and the Holy Ghost are one. Althought born of the Eternal, as the Father has life in himself, the Son has life in himself. While born of the Eternal, having been given life in himself thus seperated from the Eternal, it can no longer faithfully claim to be eternal, since it has a beginning of Life in himself. Thus the LORD God in Genesis 2 is no longer referred to as Elohim, but the LORD. Thus in 1 Tim 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

As nature itself demonstrates, the visible light of the Sun is both particle and wave.
