Matthew 25:31-46

It is the opinion of most readers of Matthew 25:31-46 that the assignment given to the sheep (everlasting life) and the goats (destruction) is a consignment for the goats and a reward for the sheep. I do not believe Matthew 25:31-46 is about an event in time. I believe it is about an assignment. The assignment is God's will on Earth to do. God's will leads to everlasting life. People have turned the illustration to mean the doing of God's will leads to the reward of everlasting life. That might be true, but it is not what the illustration means.
At any time that a person is alive it is possible for the person to obey for everlasting life. Then he is a sheep of the flock of God. But he must not hesitate, vary or waver. He must endure to the end. Thus the reason for the explanation of the help the sheep give to Yeshua the King. What results from the kind works of another? Kind works help a person to endure.

Am I right?

I was always told that our faith is one of the only one's where it is not works that save you, Whereas all the others are about works.
But we are only saved by the Grace of God, The blood of the Lamb.
Not because we gave to the poor, Or were kind to strangers.

I think we do these things because they please God, And they help us grow in spirit and change in our hearts. And because it's building a better relationship and understanding of God.

Not because if we do them, We win a ticket to heaven.
That is not what anything is about.

It's not about winning. People believe that those who do those things will be granted everlasting life.

Are you saying it means those who are granted everlasting life will do those things?

How does a person know they will endure in it? They do not. Do you know you will endure in your love and understanding of God? How do you know?

Generally, Yes I believe they will do those things.
But those things are not the reason they are saved, You gain nothing from works, And it is meant to be that way.

Because we know God will never give us more than we can handle.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

I love that passage :)

True. Thank you.

The question is; does the king say they receive everlasting life or is he saying they are being assigned works for everlasting life?

Is he saying the sheep will absolutely go off into the reward and the goats will absolutely be destroyed?

Or is he saying sheep are FOR everlasting life and goats, because they are not for everlasting life, are for destruction.

Maybe the smart guy on campus is able to unravel the question.

"Go therefor be disciple and I am with you" says Jesus. Those are the sheep. The goats are those who are not disciples so are not going with him.

He said he came to save the world. The sheep are those ones who believe it and follow him.

They follow him for the saving of the world.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17

Where does it say Jesus saves those out of the world for him?

It says the world is saved through him.

I liken faith and deeds to the wings on an airplane. Without both, you aren't even going to get off the ground.

It is pretty self-explanatory.

OK? What does "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life" mean?

Is he describing a door like thing? Or is he warning about the way in which a person should walk in this life?

I think he is warning us about should walk (for everlasting life) versus does walk (to destruction).

It's the difference between a warning and a prophesy. A warning can be obeyed. A prophesy by the son of God cannot be altered.

The people who actively give to the poor and imprisoned will have a better chance of not going to eternal punishment. That's how I read it.

It is a warning in the way one should walk.

yep

Sounds good.

I believe the context suggests otherwise. Mat 25 seems to logically follow Mat. 24. The simile of the Ten virgins is also in Mat 25.

I believe if there were no works, there was no faith. I believe if there are just works, they aren't enough for a person to be saved.

I believe it is a warning for those who think they are saved but are not and a reminder to the saved that they actually did do good works by having Jesus as Lord and Savior. Most of the time as a saved person I don't think about my good works because they just happen naturally through Jesus.

I think no one has answered the question.

Does Matthew 25:31-46 describe an event in the future or does it mean for all time, past, present and future?

It is my belief Jesus is seated on his glorious throne. I believe he has been in glory since his beginning. He was glorified with respects to The Earth since his resurrection. So the vision as a future event make absolutely no sense to me.

Are you able in words to make sense of it?
