Plus Nails weren't always used. Most of the time they were just affixed to the cross with bindings and left to die to the elements.

I'm late getting back to this, i have other crosses to bare at the moment.

When nails were used they were not pushed through the palms, the weight of the body would simply tear the skin and the body would fall.
The nails were passed through above wrist between the ulna and radius bones. No falling bodies doing it that way.
