I'd try explaining the game but we'd be here til next week. It's like learning another language and 3 sports in one all at once.... Only thing that it could be remotely compared to is baseball, but it's still not close. it has batters and innings and pitchers (but they "bowl" and can't throw the ball, it has to be a straight arm action).

I've seen it played, it's very strange to us over here - but interesting. Don't know I could sit through an entire match though without some vested interest in doing so.

We've started cutting it down. There's three formats now. one that takes about 7 hours one that takes about 3 and one that takes 5 days.

Once upon a time they just used to play till the game was finished (don't ask, long story) but one game lasted 10 days and the English side that was Touring South Africa had to leave or they would have missed their boat back home (was in the 40s some time I think.) Ever since then, they only have 5 days and if it's not finished it's a draw.

Ivory Coast lost to Egypt in the African Cup final. Of course, the match was not shown here at all.
Not here either! :bonk: *not a happy puppy* Looked like a good game. Meantime while Drogba's been out of the Chelsea line-up for his international duties. Hernan Crespo has reclaimed the spot Drogba took from him (and the reason he transferred over the Italian Serie A (and then back again)

What do you do when you have 2 top strikers in your team that can't play together?

Am I the only person who has Germany winning it at home? I don't know how they've been playing, but come on, they made the finals last cup.

Yeah, but the Nederlands and Brazilian attacks are far too strong for Germany. A solid team through the midfield and defense (as they always are), they somehow never inspire when on attack. If they can hold it to a draw and take it on penalties ok, but do you really want to se ANOTHER final won on penalties?

Germany is an emotional favorite for me. I'd love to see them win. I love watching the Bundesliga and will watch German soccer over England any day (unless Chelsea is playing).

But like Chris said, they are just not up to beating the likes of Brazil, Netherlands, and even the Czechs.

NO. :ignore:

If Ronaldinho keeps up his form this summer, and Ronaldo actually bothers to move once in a while, wth the likes of young Robinho, Adriano, and Kaka, Brazil will be unstopable. If they play to their abilities nobody will match them.

Other than Brazil I think the Dutch have a great squad, but never play as a team. Too many egos.

I quite fancy England will do well.

I've been hearing a lot of talk about Argentina flying in under the shadow of Brazil and surprising some people. In truth, it's no surprise that Argentina has a very good team, we just hear about them as much because of Brazil.

I wondering about Italy's chances now that Totti will probably miss the World Cup with his broken leg/ankle. They weren't picked by many to win it before, and losing Totti won't help that.

One of the greatest moments in sports history was when the US women defeated China - not because of the whole anti-communism slant of the game, but because of the increase in sports bra sales afterwards! :)

I always root for Japan, but I know they suck.

Oh, well.
Japan should advance out of the group stage with Brazil if they can beat Croatia and the only other team in the group is Australia for godsakes.

By the looks of things, hardly anybody ventures to this corner of the forums, but if you ever do read this, let me know what you think!

Who is going to win the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

I think England will win it! COME ON THE THREE LIONS! :clap :D
