Messiah Complex

Just what is it? I mean what do people exactly think they can do when they have this complex? Do they think they can make the blind see? Do they think they can shape shift? Does anybody here have any inside information on what these people actually think about themselves as far as special powers go? Probably not because of doctor patient confidentiality. I’m just curious.

The definition states that someone believes they’re a Messiah or prophet that will save or redeem people. It’s a little vague.

Are you having symptoms KP? A person suffering from a delusion of grandeur is an unwell person who is at risk of harming themselves and others.

In most countries the police are able to “detain” such people for psychiatric evaluation. It’s not what they say, it is the risk of harm that is assessed.

I would expect Jesus, should he return, would be exempt from such an evaluation. I think Netflix even has a show about such a scenario?

No. I’ve been at peace for many years gratefully and thankfully.

I think it is more about believing you have been especially chosen (by some kind of higher power such as God) to be a saviour and usher in a new era and to have all the answers, to change the world like how Jesus did

And thinking you are special and not like others

Any person who actually is Jesus would have magic powers so everyone would be able to see who they are

People who think they are special chosen saviours are 100% not Jesus unless they can perform miracles

How else would the real Jesus stand out from all the hundreds of thousands of people who are not Jesus but have a Messiah complex?????

What are these symptoms you elude to?

Do you agree psychiatry and psychology to be a legitimate science that is relied upon to diagnoses and treat mental health conditions?
Of course it is a valid science

However having grandiose beliefs does not in itself mean you are a danger to anyone including yourself

I've been in the mental health system for 20 years and any mental health care professional would tell you that

I for one am glad that having grandiose beliefs does not lead to you being locked up, unless there is also some risk

Should Christians that believe Jesus was god in the flesh, will return and establish a new heaven and new earth be detained for psychiatric evaluation as well?

In your 20 years have never seen 1 patient admitted involuntarily with delusions of grandeur?

Only paranoia

On the occasions on which I was committed it was for paranoia and having psychotic episodes

Not for the beliefs I had about myself

I read my notes

Being detained helped me settle my mind but did nothing about my beliefs, I was not in there because of those

My apologies, I read your 20 years to be from the perspective of the service, not of a patient.
