Metaphysics?

What do people think about Metaphysics?

How does your tradition, religion, or belief system use Metaphysics? What role do they play for you?

I am especially interested in Metaphysics as in the "a priori speculation upon questions that are unanswerable to scientific observation, analysis, or experiment"

For the purpose of this conversation, how would you define metaphysics?
I don't know

I know very little about it but from what I've gathered it seems very important

I'm hoping to hear various perspectives and definitions!

I'm going to edit the OP to include:

How does your tradition, religion, or belief system use Metaphysics? What role do they play for you?

Since people like talking about themselves ;)

(1)The branch of philosophy that examines the nature of reality, including the relationship between mind and matter, substance and attribute, fact and value.

(2)The theoretical or first principles of a particular discipline.
"the metaphysics of law."

(3)A priori speculation upon questions that are unanswerable to scientific observation, analysis, or experiment.

Which version??

As I understand it, thought, emotion, love, sensation, motivation, and awareness are just a few examples of metaphysics. It is merely the sum of the subtle features of the body/mind complex.

Yes. I agree that OP needs to choose a definition and stick with it.

So for you Metaphysics is about "subtle features"?

I'm not sure what else it would be about. Metaphysics, as I see it, is a study of what is metaphysical.
So to use your words, it is the study of "the mind/body complex"? - is that another way of saying what it means to be human? (I don't want to put words in your mouth)

How about things that are not human, such as Brahman? How is that a metaphysical entity?

It's the study of qualities of sentience.

How about things that are not human, such as Brahman? How is that a metaphysical entity?
Metaphysics are inherent to transactional reality. Transactional reality is a transient appearance in Brahman.

So would non-transactional reality be that which is not a part of one's personal experience?
I'm not sure what you mean by "non-transactional reality." What do you feel would not be a part of one's personal experience?

I was thinking there could be a distinction between reality as it exists for you and as you experience it, and reality as it exists for others and as they experience it, and reality as it exists independently of anyone (if that is even possible)

I thought that would be an interesting avenue and that "Transactional Reality" sounds like a type of reality, a sense in which reality can be understood - which lead me to think there could be other types of reality apart from that which one experiences, hence "non-transactional reality"
