Mexican cartels and Trumps wall

100,000 dead, 30,000 missing: Mexico’s war on drugs turns 10

And it doesn't look it is stopping. After watching the movie Sicario, I am certain there are many clandestine special forces and CIA operatives involved in the Mexican drug war. I'm also certain that things will continue to get dirtier as addiction and drug use rises and the American government becomes more and more desperate.

What do you think, would a wall prevent drug cartels from operating with impunity? Do you think all drugs should be legalized? Can a society function and maintain its competitive edge if all drugs are legalized?

It's nothing more than foolish to think it will given they are already tunneling underneath the border.

Countries that have at least decriminalized all drugs have seen the numbers going in the right directions, including fewer deaths, lesser use, and better access to addiction treatment.
Legalize, regulate, tax, and rehabilitate not incarcerate.

Legalizing drugs is the only way to go, since who can tell who's on the take in government. Legalizing it would bring it out of the shadows and maybe provide some safer options than heroin from street thugs, for people looking to feel good. Along with an ad campaign showing the dangers of using drugs.

Pretty much anywhere you look, decriminalizing and legalizing trends in decreased usage and better access to treatment and better treatment. Portugal, for example, is seeing a continual decline even 14 years after decriminalizing in usage rate and death rate.

They basically are doing things right, including focusing on addiction treatment, and the numbers are looking great.

Just get that wall build, keep those low life's where they should be.

Why do you call Mexicans low life's. Only a small proportion of those that cross have anything at all to do with drugs and criminality.
Pretty much as many Americans are involved in the drug trade as Mexicans.
Drugs will find their way in with or with out the border wall.
Prohibition demonstrated that such draconian measures increase criminality not lessen them, it also subverts all those organisations intended to counter them.

It's fun to be provocative.

R.e. the OP I can't see there being any chance this will damage the cartels in any real way. Bu continued decriminalisation will likely help! The legalisation of marijuana in several states is a movement in the right direction. It's already dented cartel income a bit. If that spreads nationwide, and is followed by a government-regulated cocaine industry, that will help a lot.

Why does it need to be government regulated? wouldn't it be just easier, and fairer, if people were free to do what they wanted? Buyer beware.

So the government can ensure quality and safety and provide aid to those with addiction more readily.
