Might they have purpose

I have for many years found most religions to be completely limiting and quite clueless. In constant contemplation on how to help such individuals expand thier spiritual understanding of God so that they might wake from their spiritual slumber. I recently had a vision that left me with the impression that perhaps these religions do have a purpose. Guiding those less evolved spiritual beings toward the understanding. This was quite ground breaking to grasp for me due to the fact that I felt that they were actually limiting individuals versus helping them to grow. I would be interested to hear others thoughts on the matter.

I agree. Here's something I posted in another thread:

I also would put forth that what people need to bring them closer to God is different. So God will give different things to different people in order to bring them closer to Him. I don't believe any religion on Earth teaches the principles the God actually wants us to live. But I believe they are like stepping stones. All at different levels that help us get to the level that God wants us to be at. Everyone learns and progresses differently. I believe God knows this, and has given us various teachings to help each of us come to Him through our individuality.

I am not bound by your visions.

Given your characterization of others as "less evolved beings" in "spiritual slumber" and in need of your help, my thoughts are that this particular ground-breaking spiritual vision apparently didn't help with your ego issue.

Friend MEMNOK,
You are absolutely right BUT grasp the reason here:
If you agree that humans have evolved from other beings then you can visualise a cycle of new humans joining the grade and if you understand that othing dies you would understand that the karma that men do too remains and is carried forward to the next birth.
That is why there are humans at every conceivable levels at all times ALSO this much is certain that each one has to complete the cycle by slowly getting their desires fulfilled or by conciously doing so.
Maybe this is difficult for your understanding unless you are familiar with cultures from the east.
However, if you do, its fine.

Exactly. Very advanced for a christian standpoint though. Though I wish more shared it.

Very true. I have studied many religions from the east. I believe my difficulty in truly seeing purpose was my own obstacles. I already believed in physical and spiritual evolutions. I was just holding on to a loathing that I aquired from a young age. I have over the years let go of my anger and distaste for them, but still saw little purpose. That is what has changed. It has been quite uplifting to no longer have the burning urge to help those that don't want or understand it.

Sorry, I tend to speak my thoughts. I don't really care if people are offended by things that should not offend them. I merely stated my opinion from what I "know".

True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing...

I understand. It is sad that a number of athiest I have met are generally more intelligent than typical religious types. But due to their true limitation of the tangible only, they fall at the begging of the chain.

Friend MEMROCK,
Glad you understand.
Whatever you do is perfect provided you do so conciously i.e. your concious does not go against you.
Rest is primarly about SELF realisation, others will come around in their own time and space as you understand.

Thing is, phrases like "less evolved" are an indicator of someone who doesn't know that he "knows nothing" about evolution. :D

Everything that religions offer can be also got outside of religions, rendering the institution superfluous. This I "know."

Surely you must "know" then that these two statements are in some tension, and the bold one is flat-out contradicted by assertions like these:

These comments are not from someone who thinks he knows nothing, as Willamena alluded.

see a coralation maybe between intelligence and believers in religion?....i dont know, not something i would normally have stated, but since you feel ok about being offensive to atheists, i dont feel i should be kind to believers then.
we all intitled to are opinions but never to be rude to others. here i actually find the Atheists tend to be less personnal than the believers....that surely shows signs of being higher up the evolutionary ladder

(p.s to all believers, i am not dissing your faith. just certain peole that feel they have the right to call us atheists)

Actually, the statement was that atheists are more intelligent. ;)

But it's not "intelligence" that is "taken away." It's a statement that acknowledges the self-imposed limitations we all place on our understanding, and in fact I agree with it: some very intelligent people who identify themselves as atheist stubbornly cling to paradigms that are only marginally functional.

Oh, golly, now I sound like one of those egotistical mystics in Sunstone's thread. ;)

arh, but i think we have a different interpratation of the post. he gives us intelligence, but says we are limited. the implication is that we are limited by our lack of belief. whereas i believe it is the opposite. many atheists do not arrive at their "beliefs" without already having some personnal experience of God and belief. therefore it is not us that are limited, but those that can not see outside the box of belief.
think we should dispense with this conversation as we will not agree, and i hate that - being so stubborn in my attachment to my paradims :D
