Mike Johnson, a staunch Louisiana conservative, is elected House Speaker

I'm a planet
Only when described by haters.
It is an absolutely accurate description. He has publicly stated the that gay sex should be legally prohibited, he personally aided and abetted in election results denial, he publicly stated that the U.S. is not a democracy, but a Christian republic, that elections don't matter because "God elevates our leaders", and that marriage equality should be repealed. And that's just for starters.

I kinda wanna see @Shaul try and defend a Christian theocracy for the US, and banning gay sex. Only because it will be a circus.

Compared to Europe? No. But politics are local. And I would say that there are several Democrats that could be called staunch leftists.
Could be but the word "staunch" , is it ever used
in America except for conservatives?

Compared to, you say.

I've an uncle late of the Red Guard.
I'd say staunch Maoist / leftists but the word
is inadequate.

I see. Yes, but then another slightly pejorative term is usually used if one is being polite. I could not think of any but you will heard the term "socialist" sometimes abused.

I've had sea cucumber before.
Bizarre offensive texture.
No taste of its own.

I actually had to google images to find
what you were finding yucky.

I've only eaten a much larger kind, which
is prepared as only the five longitudinal
muscles, each about the size of a pencil.

Nothing in appearance, taste or texture
would be anything but a rare pleasure. Except
for someone with, you know, issues.

Like me. If you tried to get me to eat meat. :D
