Heh heh heh.

I was at the gas station that I frequent near my house (energy drinks, coffee beer, snacks etc). And it's gotten to the point that most of the workers know me.

Well I've been buying a lot of wood and enviro-logs lately to warm my house, and I'm the only one that buys them at this gas station.

Apparently, though, they don't know much about me, as I only make small talk. But the clerk I was talking to today, mentioned that she was trying to explain who I was (as I was buying a lot of logs lately), and she referred to me as "looking like I am a teacher".

Which I find kind of amusing, because 1) I have taught before, during my last couple years in the military, and 2) I wouldn't mind teaching again, as long as it's HS and above.

Have you ever been mistaken for having a specific profession, or some other position based mostly on looks, and brief encounters?

I was confused for staff at my university café yesterday, apparently. They mentioned something about paying with a staff card or regular card. It's funny because I also am a qualified teaching assistant and can cover classes, but not at uni level, of course.

Do you have space to store logs in bulk? It works out a lot cheaper than buying in small amounts.

Having grey hair, baldness, and a goatee, people mistakenly thought I was a doctor when I worked in a hospital and was called father
more than once because I wore a black turtleneck to work on occasion in a Catholic healthcare environment.

All I did was transport patients to and from treatment before I started my grounds keeping stint there.

I managed to get a job at a school as an exam invigilator. Three different members of staff (in a 6 week period) made comments about me assuming I was a teacher as I apparently look like one. The punchline is I subsequently got a job at the school as a teaching assistant.

Somebody in a church choir once thought I might be a priest. , because of how I sang Gregorian chant. To this day I'm not sure whether that was a compliment or an insult.

I think I get mistaken for a grumpy old man a lot.
I'm not. Grumpy that is.

But aren't you also a year or two older than the average undergraduate student? Perhaps you evinced a certain air of maturity.

Can't say someone mistook my profession quite the opposite.
I was on a bus and a middle-aged man was drunk and kept trying to start a conversation with those around him. Most looked the other way and pretended they didn't hear him, but he caught my eye and we conversed for a while.
As he got off the bus, he turned to me and asked if I was a nurse or a social worker.
He was spot on; I was a psychiatric nurse.

I've been mistaken for a high-school student multiple times. I've also been told that I look like "some scientific researcher," which I'm guessing was due to a combination of looking geeky (wearing glasses, looking tidy, etc.) and being very calm.
