More religious?

godless wonder
I went to a baptism yesterday and while conversing with one of my friends, he brought up how "really religious" his aunt was. And I thought about this on the way home. Aren't you just religious or not? If there are some who are more devout and serious than others about their religion, do they look at others of their own faiths differently or shake their heads because they don't worship like they do? Is just carrying a "label" of religion mean you're really religious?

Whenever I tell someone my aunt or grandma is "really religious" what I mean is that they live and breathe Jesus. Its like a psychotic obsession. Like my aunt doesn't let her kids watch Harry Potter because she thinks it promotes witchcraft...thats what I mean by "really religious" when I say it.

Not necessarily, but smug superiority is unfortunately common in every pursuit.

When a person is "really religious" everything they do is centered around their religion. Most religious people use their religion as a guiding path in their lives, people who are really religious their religion is their lives.

Religious religious can either mean someone who thinks that are the best person of their religion or alternatively a religious nutcase. I imagine that there is a fair degree of overlap between the two.

I think some people can be more religious than others, since I believe that faith is somewhat different than religious. You either have faith or don't have faith, but with religion, it is more the acts you do, such as doctrine and dogma. I know of people who quote scripture to everything I say, which is quite annoying, for example.

I hate labels but I'm certainly less into religion than my family members. They're certainly more religious than I, though I'd say I'm no less spiritual.

Qualifiers of religiosity tend to mean how involved one is in their faith.

Sadly, calling someone "really religious" often just means you wouldn't have to be told they are a member of a religion.

If there are some who are more devout and serious than others about their religion, do they look at others of their own faiths differently or shake their heads because they don't worship like they do?
I'm sure people that are more devout wish others would be so as well... but in my experience most of the devout are friendly and kind, not looking down on people, just encouraging them to make their faith a more active part of their life.

Are you "really atheistic" or not. Most atheists I know don't actually give a toss and would not dream of discussing their lack of belief on an online forum (mainly because they are "real atheists" and genuinely see nothing to discuss). So I suspect (since you are on here) that when aquaintances speak of you they will say that you were "really atheistic" and as such you should be able to answer your own question.

To support the beliefs and find them wise is trying to define a world you can relate.
Can someone be more religious? -absolutely.
It is that the concepts and values they support are in the very realms of the religion they turn to.it is in everthing they say,do, and consider.
I think it makes them maintaining a world that gives them a church to stand in and still leave to carry on the source of in spiration.
Weather someone is athiest is found in how each of us define it.
Let the truth be told in the actions than feelings on a page.
It is not for me to respond to it.it is for me to accept and let those who belive it to communicate and consider!

Many choose to think that "labeling" themselves will save them from the Truth. IMO religion should be personal; after all isn't it suppose to be based on a relationship with Divinity?:angel2:

I think maybe some day the disillusionment religion allows within the populous will be realized. These same who I will refer to as BBs forget one of the rules in which they claim to live by and that is "judge not least ye be judged".

But can it be that she's really much more devout and serious than you or her kids may be?

Lol, like most here I don't come here to try to turn anyone on to my beliefs. I come here because of the discussion and debate.
You can suspect all you want, but if you read the first line, I was at a BAPTISM. If I were "really atheistic", why would I bother showing up at a ritual that is meaningless to me? In fact if I were "really atheistic" I should be chastising the couple for putting their child through it in the first place.
I was there because I care about my friends and respect whatever they do to celebrate their child's life.

Religion generally seems to be somewhat of a compulsion or addiction for people described as "really religious." They also often seem to be a bit touched in the head.

Or just really lonely. I've seen a lot of people immerse themselves in religion when nothing else seems to work out for them.
