More than 5 senses? (Spirituality)

an anarchist

Your local loco.
In some books I’ve read/am reading, there is talk about perceiving beyond your five senses. Like, a sixth sense. Some sort of intuitive gut feeling that you get I guess.

Do I really have to try to exceed and go beyond my five sense to be spiritual? Are my five senses not adequate?

I know I’m God in the flesh. My five senses don’t tell me that. Wisdom from God (infinite universe) tells me that. In the same way you would know that you’re not God in the flesh.

Yes, but I wouldn't consider like a "sixth sense" or a "gut feeling."

Are my five senses not adequate?
Adequate for what? They're plenty adequate for seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and smelling. I'm not sure what, beyond these, they're adequate for.

Neither am I the mind nor intellect nor ego,

Neither am I the organs of hearing, nor of tasting, smelling, nor seeing,

Neither am I the sky nor the earth, neither the fire nor the air,

Neither am I the vital breath nor the five vital airs,

Neither am I the seven ingredients nor the five sheaths,

Neither am I the organ of speech, nor the organs of holding, of movement, nor excretion,

Try it. See if it works.

If not. Move on!

Doesn't the sense of temperature count as a sense in its own right????

The sense of hot and cold

I have a 'sense' that tells me where things are(when I'm not able to see), and something about a person in the area, but I don't know what I'd call it.

I believe that there are people with extrasensory perception, or the sixth sense.

As a spiritualist, I know that some spiritualists believe that extensive meditation and study can help a person psychologically access their sixth sense and learn how to become a psychic medium, but I'm not convinced that's true. On the contrary, I believe that some people are born with it, and it is up to them to decide whether to use it or not. I believe this because I've never met a psychic or spirit medium who didn't have innate psychic ability, and their abilities progressed over time as they learned how to sufficiently control them rather than be controlled by them. While I value science and feel it is necessary and beneficial for learning about the physical world, I do not believe it can logically explain anything metaphysical (deities, earthbound spirits, or anything else supernatural). I also doubt that any extent of scientific research will ever be able to properly explain or disprove the supernatural phenomena that I believe occur in the physical world. Maybe science will catch on someday, but I doubt it. I say this because I believe that there are genuine supernatural phenomena that defy both scientific and religious explanations. Personally, I believe in supernatural phenomena for reasons that I've discussed often on this forum (for example, my prior post here, with an additional post to read). Of course, this is what I believe, and I understand that others may disagree.

Magnetic and electric field sensing would be nice.

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
I think introspective recognition of one's own character traits is a spiritual sense that people have. Feelings correlation with understandings, and in relation to experiences is a language of a spiritual sense within one's self.

There is a sense where it may be easier to observe the behavior of others and understand it better than understanding self. I think there is a sixth sense in these areas

In some traditions of Druidry, as well as nature-based religions more broadly, embracing sense and sensuality is part of the teachings. That is, your bodily senses and sensations are seen as respected and sacred - they are a big part of how we get to know the gods. No need to go "beyond" the gifts the gods have given us with sense and sensuality - there is a lot of magic and power in them as they are.

But here's the rub - mainstream culture was strongly influenced by religious traditions that don't view the body as sacred and tend to place taboos on sense and sensuality. As such many of us get taught not to tune into our senses and our bodies, revel in what we experience, and learn how to use it. So part of nature-based teachings are about correcting those barriers that the mainstream culture we live in has erected for us. Relearning how to see and hear and feel and so on. How to really pay attention and tune in with all the sacred senses at our disposal. It can feel like a "sixth" sense - a gestalt experience that feels like it goes beyond the ordinary but really it is us being more fully in tune and in command of our faculties in a deeper way than we often get taught.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I can always guess the number of beans in a jar or the number really of anything, like matches in a heap or whatever. And some people can see more colors than other people.
