It is something that we Latter-day Saints should expect and accept. Just 3 things[out of many] that Jesus said:
"Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake."
(Luke 6:22)
"Ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. (Luke21:17)
"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." (John 15:18-19)
Also the Apostle John wrote : "Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you." (1John 3:13).
Putting up with the world's hatred of us is part and parcel of what makes the majority of Latter-day Saints strong in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ. Yes, there are those who fall away, because they have come up against something they cannot reconcile with in their belief in Christ and the gospel as taught by the LDS Church, whether through books, films, online, "ministries" or whatever. Some may have been strong once and then become weak, and others may never have been strong in the faith, and have fallen away because of listening to those who are against us, rather than turn to God.
Other religions such as the JW also get a bashing, but the LDS faith outranks them all. The world is more fearful of us than them!
Finally, another quote from the Lord Jesus:
"Blessed are ye when men sahll revile you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsly, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." (Sermon on the Mount - Matthew 5:11-12)
