As I´ve understanded, the mormons originally was a religious path that had a strong focus on judgement day. But this seems to have less focus today. Correct?
You could be right, but in my 66 years as a Mormon, I've never really heard that said within the Church.
When did the mormons that judgement day was going to be, originally?
Back when the Church was first founded (in 1830), I think there was quite a bit of talk among all Christians, particularly in Joseph Smith's part of the country, that Judgement Day was right around the corner. It would probably be safe to assume that this was probably a commonly held belief in the early LDS Church as well. I'm sure there were probably Mormons living in Joseph Smith's day who were convinced that he would be alive so see the Second Coming of Christ, even though he did not teach this. To the best of my knowledge, there has never been a prophecy concerning a specific date, or even year or decade for that matter.
When does the the mormons that judgement day are going to come today?
The fact that the official name of our church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a strong indicator that we have always believed that we are now living in "the latter-days." The thing is, nobody knows how long the latter-days are actually going to last. We are taught that the Lord has revealed certain signs telling us that the end is "near." "Near" in God's mind, however, may be something entirely different than "near" in the minds of human beings. We know that there are certain things which have been prophesied that have not yet come to pass, though, so we're really not anticipating that it's going to be in the immediate future. Our focus is not so much on when it's going to happen but on being spiritually prepared for when it does.
By the way, for future reference, there is actually an
LDS DIR. I don't know that it's a big deal in this case, but you might want to make a note of it if you have any other questions.
