Most Americans trust the military and scientists to act in the public’s interest, but not so much many other groups.

Well darn, time to join the military and become a high ranking general and run for president.

Screw that, let's get a famous scientist to run for president. Might as well since we already became a reality TV show.

Hm, actually what scientist would be great for president? They would have the smarts but would they have the political knowledge and fortitude?

Perhaps because the American military has not yet attempted any coups.
The invasion of Pol..., er.. Iraq?

The military is an arm of the corporatocracy -- company hit-men. It does not serve the American people or protect our shores. It's corporate muscle: securing and protecting markets, nation building, installing puppet governors, &c.

Far from securing our freedom and security, It destabilizes, it agitates. It's the efficient cause of anti-American hatred; of terrorism, and of the fear and insecurity that's gripped this nation.

The military should not be viewed as a strong father or trusted friend.

Revelation all the time
The military should not be viewed as a strong father or trusted friend.

Neither should public health scientists

I'm thinking most respondents went with "support the troops" type rhetoric with regards to military
And hard sciences with regards to scientists.

Hi Folks...

The funny thing is - the LEAST trusted are the MEDIA and the ELECTED OFFICIALS...lol....and yet - the MEDIA HYPE is at this very moment DECIDING the opinion about those ELECTED OFFICIALS (as it does with all societal issues) ......You have a situation then where those you trust LEAST are "guiding" and MANIPULATING you to have opinions that THEY hold - and even though it is openly stated that you DONT TRUST THEM - still - you follow their lead and hold THEIR opinion that they spoon fed to you... I mean - how many people rely on ONLY their mainstream media for theirsocietal truth..???...The ones they DONT even trust have become the ONLY GUIDE they listen too.....its RIDICULOUS !!!

And this leads of course - to fiasco - such as again we see openly stated - the LEAST trustworthy are the ELECTED OFFICIALS - but still again - we keep on doing it - electing people that we openly know we cannot trust but we still play along anyways - this current circus fiasco election is a prime example - NEITHER candidate is acceptable - but the MEDIA will MANIPULATE and TWIST it until eventually you DO accept them and even "embrace them as a good thing" which NEITHER are and never were - and all the while in rare moments of clarity we will see this clearly and with hindsight we will say again - "oh turns out we cant trust them after all" - lol - but immediately we will turn again and embrace them and the manipulation will continue always Im afraid....Its right what is said about the majority of us - not people - but sheeple - blind follow the blind even though the outcome is always obvious... You know - such as TRUSTING a military that takes direct orders from those you DO NOT ACTUALLY TRUST...lol....means of course that NO you can NOT trust the military either s it is always an extension of the institute you trust least - but you are manipulated always so they get THEIR agenda across and accepted blindly and as we see most are indeed fully blindsided here giving power time and time again to people they do not actually trust at all.....

He's just jealous.

Apparently so. But that sure sounds irrational to me.
Seems plausible though.
Individuals who serve their country with low pay & some risk seem noble to most.
But the military which they join is a creature controlled by government, which is
run by the inept & the corrupt. So I understanding trusting the military, but
recognizing it doesn't control its own actions (on the larger scale).

Warning:
My musings are that of a former draft dodger who loathes uniforms, duty & discipline.

Only in the sense that people seem to believe it.

Al-Qaeda and ISIS would agree, I am sure.

So would the Contras that Oliver North went out of his way to help. Remember that? Wasn't it claimed and apparently believed at the time that he totally did not act according to politician's instructions?

Nah, I file that one under "blind nationalism" and call it a day.

The military is a major political force in nearly any country. I don't think the USA can claim to be an exception.

A man after my own heart.
