Movies That Have Scarred You For Life

In issue #18 of SCREEM magazine the editors made a list of movies that had scarred them for life. What was interesting about this list is that they weren’t all horror movies. They were movies of every genre that had images that stayed with them throughout their lives. I would like to extend this invitation to all RF members to list those movies that have scarred you for life. They could be movies that you watched when you were very young or they could be film features that you saw recently that left an indelible impression upon you that you just cannot shake.

My partial list is:

JAWS (scared the hell out of me when I was little kid).
The Nutty Professor (the Jerry Lewis production which is a brilliant study in direction).
Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory-(Gene Wilder brought a magnificent performance to this bizarre movie).
A Clockwork Orange-(still my favorite Stanley Kubrick movie)
Valley Of the Gwangi- dinosaurs, cowboys and horses-oh my!!

Movies don't scar me I guess...

My friend scarrred a movie for me, during lord of the rings, every time when the dwarf's axe was in the picture, he reffered to it as the the dwarfs ars instead of axe. So my image of an axe...

Requiem for a dream. I love it but it will definitely stick with you for a while after you watch it for the first time.

When I was very young my dad took me to the cinema for my birthday,-Good Times :) but he took me to see Marathon Man :( That scarred me for a bit, but I'm over it now ......

"Gone with the Wind". Two people got married and no one could do anything to stop it. It was horrible!

The uncut version of Re-Animator (very loosely based on Lovecraft's story) disturbed me when I was younger. I think it was the undead cunnilinigus...

JAWS (scared the hell out of me when I was little kid).

Ditto on Jaws scaring the hell out of me.

The first Star Wars also left an impression as it`s scenery gave an example of vast expanses I`d never before contemplated.

Re-Animator is the best "B" movie ever made.

Alice in Wonderland - scared the **** out of me as a kid, even worse when they did a version with live actors.

Wizard of Oz - just sick and wrong

Babes in Toyland - I really liked this one, but it was still upsetting

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - all those kids getting messed up from eating candy...

Pinochio - scared the crap out of me too.

I still hate these movies passionately.

We can see a theme here. All these kid movies my parents encouraged me to see scared the crap out of me, but all the violent cowboy, science fiction, and horror flicks didn't do a thing.

I haven't been "scarred" by any movies. There are some movies that have stuck in my mind long after I've watched them, though.

Can't brain. Has dumb.
Reign in Darkness

Worst. Film. Ever.

I'm one of the oddest movie watchers, where I feel I must watch an entire film the entire way through. This film took me 13 goes.

It's not scary, it's not bizarre, it's not freaky... it's just a really really really bad film. Australian actors who I think are attempting U.S. accents and failing miserably...

If there's an award for worst film in the history of the existence of film, it's Reign in Darkness, and that is what's scarring..

There's no specific movie that scarred me for life, but I can remember some films I found disturbing that stuck with me for awhile.
I had this vague memory of seeing this made for tv film in 1980 or 81 on Betamax when I was a kid. For years I had no idea what it was called but I remembered a woman with glowing green eyes, a giant turtle sea monster and this eerie soundtrack. For some reason the film terrified and haunted me. After the internet rolled around I finally was able to hunt down the film and even get a bootleg copy about 8 years ago. It was The Bermuda Depths.

Apparently several other Gen-Xers were also haunted by the film and, like me, only remembered the woman with glowing green eyes a giant turtle, and a vague sense of unease :D: Dream of the Big, Huge Turtle

I was at an impressionable age when I saw this and it did stick to my ribs.

This is a very interesting list. I wish I was younger when I saw some of them. Like Funny Games, I wanted this movie to scar and disturb me to the point of no return but I had seen so much worse that even though I was interested in it long after I watched it, the effect wore off quickly.

A few more to my list:
Any John Waters movie before Polyester with Pink Flamingos being the Holy Grail. It really set the benchmark in shock and bad taste. A remarkable accomplishment.
