Movies That Have Scarred You For Life

Wizard of Oz - just sick and wrong
I just didn't like Dorothy. I always found it impossible to sympathize with that stupid girl who actually wanted to go back to Kansas.

However, what I really think is sick and wrong is Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. That movie is totally twisted, and not in a good way.

"The Trailer Park Boys Christmas Special" ...scarred me and I haven't even seen it.

Just the thought of it...
I never heard of it before! I wonder if I can get a copy somewhere.

The first movie I thought of was Sophie's Choice. Every time I hear or see the word Mädchen I remember Meryl Streep in the concentration camp crying Das Mädchen! Das Mädchen!

John always says My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding is "my" movie, and it's true I can't see a bundt cake without exclaiming, "It's a kek!"

This is a very interesting list. I wish I was younger when I saw some of them. Like Funny Games, I wanted this movie to scar and disturb me to the point of no return but I had seen so much worse that even though I was interested in it long after I watched it, the effect wore off quickly.

A few more to my list:
Any John Waters movie before Polyester with Pink Flamingos being the Holy Grail. It really set the benchmark in shock and bad taste. A remarkable accomplishment.

I've watched the first two films of John Water's "Trash Trilogy", both of which are in bad taste. Probably a few years past the point where I might be considered scarred, though.

When I was young I would faithfully follow the Beatles: The Yellow Submarine when it was on TV. When one is 6 or 7 years old this was like an LSD trip. This was before the advent of VHS and DVD when I had to scan the TV Guide and sometimes try to stay awake until 2:00am. If I snoozed I lost and I would sometimes have to wait a whole year for it to come around again (there was no way to record it).

Another thing that got under my skin wasn’t any particular horror movie but the promo introduction to Chiller Theater. It featured a 6 finger hand that was animated in clay and had this bizarre soundtrack in which the hand would reply “chiller” at the end before the horror movie started. Which was even more unnerving was that they would always flash a segment of it before going to commercial and I was never quick enough to hide or close my eyes so that I could miss it. It was pure Nightmare fuel.
