It's never occurred to me to think Mr Bean was disabled. Particularly as he always seems to win in the end.

For me he's more like the Monty Python characters, who might be considered to be mentally challenged in real life, but they inhabit a world where everything is "silly" and it's all for fun.

Not sure I'd agree about it mocking disability, though. Surely it's just meant to be silly?

I just thought that he was different. Clearly socially awkward, but then so am I at times. His thought processes merely followed a nontraditional route to his goals.

Rowan Atkinson cites Peter Sellers as an influence. Sellers, to quote Wikipedia, "had previously played bumbling fool characters". There is nothing new here.
