I almost wish I could have lived in that era.
The Word & OM
from, In Search of the Lost Chord (1969) by the Moody Blues.
(It sort of became my unofficail theme song actually.)
Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin
(from the unnamed lp, Dec. 1974-ish)
What people may not realize about this remarkable tune was that it was so different from anything on the airwaves at the time. I clearly remember my friends and I (in our early teens) stopping whatever we were doing and listen in rapt attention. The other thing folks may not realize that this wonderful "ballad" has a pretty amazing feature. You see, each note from the start of the song onward is at the volume of a thunderclap. It is absolutely staggering to see LIVE. When I saw them do this in Vancouver in 1975 the sound, from start to the last note, SPIRALLED around the stadium in quadrophoic sound. Simply amazing.
Like Circle_one I have seen all the "big" acts and a lot of lesser knowns as well, Led Zeppelin aced them all.... easily... and I didn't even really like Robert Plant's vocals at the time. That came a few years later when I began to appreciate what an amazing vocalist he is.
Ah well, I'll let someone else take the ball from here.
