Muslims in Italy now calling for polygynous marriage

That's a consequence of religious/cultural beliefs, not of polygamy.

The two are very much connected. Polygyny in Muslim societies is justified by the patriarchal gender roles the religion places upon its adherents. Men are meant to be the providers, the breadwinners and protectors while women are meant to be looked after, cared for and keep the house. That's why the Muslims in question are arguing for polygyny, not polygamy which would include polyandry. Marriage in Islam is an inherently uneven process - why is it so easy for a man to divorce his wife while the wife must jump through hoops to accomplish the same?

Treating women as commodities becomes a lot easier when law allows you to acquire multiple wives. Want to seal a deal with a business partner? Offer him one of your daughters as a wife. Polygyny, along with the Islamic acceptance of child marriages and patriarchal culture, means women get a very raw deal in most Islamic countries. We should not allow that to become the norm here.

Each can have their own role, then they can have equal say.

You're arguing against one specific model for what polygamous marriages might be. They do not have to be that.

I think you're basing your argument on a utopian, idealistic view of polygynous marriage.

Revelation all the time
You must be reading a different NT than the one written by the Apostles. I don't see any of that in the real NT.

1 Corinthian 7 verses:
  • It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
  • I say therefore to the unmarried and widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I.
  • Art thou loosed from a wife? Seek not a wife.
  • But if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless, such shall have trouble in the flesh, but I would spare you.
  • It remaineth that those who have wives should be as though they had none;
  • He that is unmarried careth for the things which belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord; but he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
