My announcement

ZoyaHayat

Divine Female Power
Namaste :namaste

After spending so long searching, I believe I have found my place as an adherent of Sanatana Dharma, not because I am denying the validity of other religions, but because Sanatana Dharma is right for me.

What do you recommend I do now, to start living according to my dharma?

I have yet to find my ishta-devata. I am spiritually attracted to Krishna, Shiva, Kali, Lakshmi and Ganesha - so what path I will go into, I have no idea yet.

So, any questions? :)

Congratulations Odion :D...may you find solace in what you have chosen xxx

Congratulations Odion! Great choice! :) May Lord Ganesha bring you peace and sound mind as you move ahead (Ganesha is my favorite Hindu deity)

Congrats!!!!! and Welcome to the Sanatan family :D

Take your time and don't worry. You'll find what's right for you. Also in terms of the ishta deva, don't worry about that either. He or She will reveal the right form to you when the time is right :)

Aum Hari Aum!

Congratulations Odion,

I agree with friend Zenzero that ultimately one has to see the journey as going towards the God rather than a particular faith. The good thing is that the Sanatana Dharma encompasses a wide variety of practices; know your inclination and select your journey. In the vast ocean of spirituality and SEEMINGLY different paths, one can get confused easily. You will need an anchor; I agree with Madhuri that Bhagvad Gita is an excellent and most accessible spiritual anchor. But, pick up the commentary written by a Siddha Purusha and not a PhD guy.

Regards,

Of course I had to Google that one before I committed.

As my Ishta Dev(i), will this involve great pleasure and grapes?

I only know that rewards from me are likely to be much more physical and obvious than the average Ishta Dev. For instance, I will communicate directly and say that I give you permission to do pleasureable things and buy grapes so long as you are not hurting anybody. See how benevolent I am? :D

Namaste Odion-ji,

When i first started practicing Sanatana Dharma two years ago, i was worried about finding my ishta devata too. I wanted to make the best decision and i wanted my spiritual life to be complete now now now. I didn't understand that it really is more of a process and you evolve into your practice; it doesn't just start when you start calling yourself a Hindu. I'm sorry, i'm sure you already have experienced this, but i just wanted to say keep an open mind. Things in life aren't always black and white. For example, although i adhere to Adi Shankaracharya's Advaita as my philosophical stance on the nature of reality, after two years and A LOT of changing of my mind (due to insecurities) i finally found that Lord Vishnu has and always will be my ishta deva (and He is one that's not usually associated with Advaita).

Anyway, i wish you all the lasting love and happiness of the universe.

Pranam!
