Okay, so I am possibly considered left-leaning around these parts, and I am also definitely not a fan of the President-elect. But my eldest daughter is 8, and I have very deliberately avoided communicating too much of my religious or political thought to her, in favour of instead trying to encourage her own critical thinking.
What passes for 'critical' at 8 years old is interesting of course. I mean, unicorns don't exist that would be ridiculous, but of course Santa is totes real.
Anyway, there is a light-weight news/current affairs program here (The Project) which is fairly safe to watch around kids, and she caught Meryl Streeps awards acceptance speech, where she commented on Donald Trump's behaviour at an earlier rally. They showed some film of him when he acted like he was mentally disabled, and it was the last straw for my daughter (who is generally a complete space cadet, and floats through life...lol)
She immediately went and got her scrap book and wrote him a letter, without any assistance;
Dear Donald Trump
Don't poot the walls up! Why did you want to stop Mexicans from comeing to your cunchry?
Are you goen to get eny wun els out?
From E
Now I need to work out where to send it, since we're trying to encourage her to be an active participant in the world. Any ideas?
