First thing I'll do is have Simpsons dubbed into Australiastanian.
Last time the Simpson's were down under it ended poorly for them

I'm not sure some Americans appreciate the impact US politics has on many countries, Australia most definitely included.
For what it's worth, my daughter desperately wants to visit the US, and would probably list it as her favourite country after Australia, despite never having been there. So think of it as constructive criticism (about proposed construction, pun somewhat intended).

Why do that? It should be filled with a fairy glitter, nay, overflowing with it!

***** New Flash ****

A suspected terrorist attack originating in Melbourne, Australia has the White House on lockdown tonight. Spokesmen for the Secret Service have confirmed that a suspicious letter was received earlier today. The quality of the handwriting is poor and possibly not written by a native English speaker, and handwriting experts are still trying to determine it's meaning, but the envelope was filled with a potential Anthrax agent.

Al Queada has not yet claimed responsibility, but the CIA is concerned at perceived differences between this Anthrax threat and previous ones, indicating a potential super-WMD has been developed. They immediately requested a budget increase from Congress to deal with the expected flood of dangerous letters.

What? Me worry?
If you really want her letter to get noticed sprinkle a little baby powder in the envelope. That always seems to get everyone's attention.

See now your daughter has gone from a dirty happy liberal to a renegade rebel leader in a matter of seconds!

My younger daughter could easily take over her school class, and command the blonde kids to burn the dark-haired ones in ovens, after growing a small moustache. Just that sorta kid. Organised and confident if we're being kind.
But my eldest? We generally have trouble convincing her that matching socks is not too much work to be bothered.

Matching socks is pointless

No....they escaped!

Aussies aren't the sharpest tool in the shed....

Matching socks is pointless
That statement is further proof of Aussies being naught but dingo bait.
I not only match my socks to each other, I match them to my ensemble & to the occasion!

I only have black socks and white socks. Problem solved.

So now you need to match black'ns with black'ns, & whities with whities in at least two dimensions!

Or you can simply change your dimension to match the material color. This, I believe, is what they mean when they talk about 'string theory' (re: Schroedinger's Sock. This was his cat's favorite toy.)

Okay, so I am possibly considered left-leaning around these parts, and I am also definitely not a fan of the President-elect. But my eldest daughter is 8, and I have very deliberately avoided communicating too much of my religious or political thought to her, in favour of instead trying to encourage her own critical thinking.

What passes for 'critical' at 8 years old is interesting of course. I mean, unicorns don't exist that would be ridiculous, but of course Santa is totes real.

Anyway, there is a light-weight news/current affairs program here (The Project) which is fairly safe to watch around kids, and she caught Meryl Streeps awards acceptance speech, where she commented on Donald Trump's behaviour at an earlier rally. They showed some film of him when he acted like he was mentally disabled, and it was the last straw for my daughter (who is generally a complete space cadet, and floats through life...lol)

She immediately went and got her scrap book and wrote him a letter, without any assistance;

Dear Donald Trump

Don't poot the walls up! Why did you want to stop Mexicans from comeing to your cunchry?
Are you goen to get eny wun els out?

From E

Now I need to work out where to send it, since we're trying to encourage her to be an active participant in the world. Any ideas?

Any young person who isn't a liberal, has no heart, as Churchill said.
