My Paranormal Investigation - Onxy Cave Park

Sgt. Pepper

All you need is love.
Here are the results of my paranormal investigation of the Onxy Cave in Eureka Springs, Arkansas on March 6.

My investigation of the cave lasted around 30 minutes. I was relieved to find out that it was a self-guided tour, so I was at liberty to investigate the cave without interfering with a tour guide's speech, and I wouldn't bother other guests. I used my tried and true paranormal apps this time because I had to walk downhill to get to the cave entrance, and I didn't want to carry a bunch of ghost hunting equipment. I've never investigated a cave before, so I looked forward to finding out if there were any spirits in it.

And sure enough, I felt the presence of more than one spirit the moment I stepped into the entrance of the cave. I didn't see any until I walked further down into the corridor of the cave, and that's when I saw the first one standing on an old rickety ladder that went down to a lower level, but that area was closed off by a gate, so I couldn't get down to it. This spirit was a younger man, and he was wearing overalls, no shirt and no shoes. I tried to talk to him, but he wouldn't speak to me. He stood there and watched me.

I moved on after I decided that this spirit wasn't going to talk to me. As I walked on, I saw a couple of other spirits, but they quickly disappeared when they realized I could see them. I didn't have communication with a spirit until I came to the end of the cave, where I saw another young man standing behind a fenced off area. He was dressed like he could have been from the early 1900s.

He smiled and waved at me as I walked up to where he was standing. My mother-in-law noticed me waving at what she thought was thin air, so she walked over and asked me if I was looking at a spirit. I nodded and pointed to the spot where this young man was standing. She was flustered because she couldn't see him, so I decided I could let her see him with my SLS camera app, and she could hear him through the Spirit Box. I asked him if he minded that I let her see him through the camera, and he shook his head no. I turned on the camera and showed her where he was standing, and I turned on the Spirit Box, so she could hear him.

My mother-in-law was fascinated by what she saw and heard. I asked him his name, and he said his name is James. I introduced myself and my mother-in-law to him, and I asked him if he would talk to us for a few minutes. He nodded and said sure. The first question I asked him was if he died in the cave, and I asked him how he died. He said he didn't die in the cave, he died in a cabin not far from the cave. He told me that he died of a fever, but he didn't elaborate. I then asked him how old he is and what year he died. He said he died when he was 21, and he died in 1917. I asked him why he hasn't crossed over, but he seemed irritated by the question. He just said he didn't want to, and I got the feeling he didn't want to talk about it, so I didn't press the issue with him.

He deliberately changed the subject and asked me how I could see him. I told him I'm a psychic medium, and I explained to him what it means. He said he had never heard of such a thing before, but he thought it was an amazing gift. He asked me how long I've been able to see spirits like him and if it scares me to see dead people. I told him that I've seen spirits since I was a small child, and it hardly ever scares me. I told him that I normally enjoy talking with spirits I meet, and I don't typically have a problem with them.

My mother-in-law suddenly spoke up and startled me because I forgot that she was there with me. She said that she was starting to feel uncomfortable being in the cave, so I told her we could head back. I told James that I had to go, and he said he understood. He told us goodbye and then he disappeared. I followed my mother-in-law out of the cave, but I could feel James following me. I turned around, but he wasn't visible. I told him I knew he was following me, and it wasn't nice to sneak up on people. I heard him laugh. I decided to see if I could get a visual of him on my SLS camera app, and I managed to capture his image standing not far behind me. I told him, "Remember, I can see you with this camera," and I heard him say, "dammit," and he disappeared. I didn't see him again.

SLS - Structured Light Sensor

An SLS camera can detect human shapes in absolute darkness or full light. It allows paranormal investigators to detect spirits that cannot be seen with the naked eye, unless the spirits manifest. It gives them the ability to see a 3D image (sort of like a skeleton) of a spirit. The green lines and white dots are a spirit that has been mapped out by the SLS camera through an infrared grid.

Are you sure he said "Dammit", if he were from early 1900, did they even use the word back then? :)

I think if you ever decide to start a thread on common paranormal terms such as "SLS," "EVP," etc., we could perhaps sticky it in this forum section. I imagine it would be helpful in threads discussing this subject.

It sure sounded like James said 'dammit' on the Spirit Box. It's difficult to know exactly how people spoke in the early 1900s. I guess it depends which class of individuals we're referring to, and I suppose swearing is a highly individual matter. I have heard profanity coming through the Spirit Box before. In fact, 'dammit' isn't the worst I've heard. I don't mean any offense when I say this, but a couple of the spirits I saw in the cave looked like hillbillies, based on the old pictures that I've seen of hillbillies from that era.

It was suggested to me by a couple of other members to start including the definitions to the terms I use (EMF, SLS, EVP), and so I've started to include the definitions in my recent posts. Sometimes I forget that not everyone knows the usual paranormal lingo.

EMF - Electromagnetic Fields

An EMF meter (EMF detector) measure fluctuations in electromagnetic fields. It's a common theory among paranormal investigators that spirits have the ability to manipulate these fields. Unexplained EMF readings often indicate something paranormal.

EVP
- Electronic Voice Phenomena

An EVP is the voice of a spirit interacting with living people through an EVP recorder or a digital recorder. A Spirit Box (Ghost Box) gives spirits the chance to speak in comprehensive sentences. A Class-A EVP is a direct and intelligent answer to a question.

How do they make themselves disappear and reappear?

I don't know the answer, Thirza Fallen. I've never thought to ask. I've seen spirits appear and disappear for years, so I just assumed that's how they avoid being seen by living people. I hope I remember your question the next time I come across another spirit.

I Googled and it started as a phrase in 1908...supposedly.

Aw. I'd like to go hang out with James.

He was a bit of a smart mouth, to be honest. I didn't have much time to spend talking to him, and I feel bad about it now. He was surprised that I could see him, so I got the impression that he's never talked to a living person since he was still alive. He seemed lonely to me, too. Most spirits I've encountered appear to be sad and lonely, and most seem like they're craving attention.

Even if dammit wasn't used in the time they lived on earth, they may have heard it used from human beings in our present 21st century and started using those terms. ;)

That's actually a good point, Spiderman.

I've heard spirits tell me to F off through the Spirit Box. I assume that if a person used profanity while they were still alive, then it's more likely that this person would continue to use profanity after their death. I assume that a person's personality doesn't change much after they die. I don't have any viable proof to verify my theory, it's simply an assumption I have based on my experience.

When you 'talked' to James did he answer through an EVP device that even your mother-in-law could hear and understand the same answers? Or were you getting the answers telepathically from James?

If it's EVP do you have a recording on file? One that you can share?

I used my favorite Spirit Box app when I spoke to James, so my mother-in-law could hear it. I heard James speaking in my mind, as I tried to explain my OP. I'm new at sharing my paranormal experiences online like this, so maybe I'm not as clear as I think I am when I write about my experiences in a post. I'm learning to do better, though. The Spirit Box app I used doesn't record audio, just the words that are spoken. It says that there are 326 entries recorded, but only the last 100 words are displayed. I'll have to export them to get the complete list. I tried to export the list from my Samsung Galaxy to my iPhone, but it's not working. The message on my Samsung says, "Looking for nearly devices," but my iPhone is literally right beside it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but my husband will be able to figure it out. I have a Spirit Box that records EVPs, but I didn't use it while I was down in the cave.

As a matter of fact, I have an EVP that I recorded at a hotel back in early January, and I don't know what it says. I tried analyzing it with a sound analyzer, but I still can't figure out what it says. It's just one word, and it frustrates me that I can't figure out what it is.

I'm used to smart mouths. I have 3 sons. :)

I might crave attention if I was sad and lonely, too.

First I want to say 'Thank You' for being so polite and co-operative with the questioning.

Now when you asked James when he died and were told '1917' did that appear on the display? Now to get a year in response to a question of when you died would seem very fitting and hard to explain away as some random pickup by the Spirit Box.

Just to clarify, did you ask the question verbally and you and your mother-in-law immediately see the answer '1917'?

I asked James verbally about when and how he died, so my mother-in-law could hear him speaking on the Spirit Box. I spoke to him verbally after she walked up and stood beside me. I was communicating with him in my mind before she came over to where I was standing. My mother-in-law is very intrigued by my psychic abilities, and she watches me like a hawk whenever we go somewhere together. She even tries to watch me while we're in her house, but I have to be careful not to give away that her house is haunted. I've never told her and my father-in-law that there's a spirit portal in their basement. My husband and I decided that telling them would freak them out and make them afraid to be in their home. If there's unusual activity in their home, then they would tell me.

Did the spirit box use a computer generated voice to audibly say '1917'?

You sound like you have a fascinating talent.

No, the Spirit Box app is Necrophonic. It's one of the best, IMO. I've repeatedly tested this app on my iPhone and on my Samsung Galaxy to make sure it's legit. I've received direct answers to specific questions while using it. And thanks for the compliment.
