My spiritual journey.

I am just entering high school, and I was raised by very Christian parents. I recently started questioning my spirtuality, and now I am on a journey of sorts to find my true belief. I believe ALL religions are beautiful, but I have yet to find the one for me. Please post books that you love on your religion, and you'll be doing me a great favor.

FRY THAT CHICKEN
I personally don't put myself in any one religion but i'd say Buddhism is my biggest influence. One of the first books that put me on the spiritual path was Buddhism-Plain & Simple by Steve Hagen. A great book on Taoism is The Tao is Silent by Raymond M Smullyan. I also would recommend Total Freedom by Jiddu Krishnamurti and The Little Book of Atheist Spirituality by Andre Comte Sponville. I'm currently reading Did Man Create God? by David E. Commings (probably one of the greatest books i've ever read in my life) and i've also started reading The Upanishads. Remember to enjoy this exploration and growth and that spirituality is your personal journey! Be your own guru. Best Wishes

If you would be so kind as to write out a little bit about your own beliefs, we will be more able to guide you in the right direction.

If, for example, I were to suggest books on Vaiṣṇava Hinduism and Sikhism, but you don't believe in God, it's not going to be as useful for your spiritual journey. :)

I believe that all people are born good, as they have not committed any wrongs, and are born with a clean slate. I believe that all the inhabitants of Earth share a common bond, the atom, and should always live hand in hand with each other, with man never damaging nature, or anylife. I believe that God is not someONE, but a term related to something we can all be, an all loving, kind, wise person whose only purpose is to help others. Sex is something to be enjoyed, but in moderation, as everything in large quantities is harmful to you. I believe that your soul is what makes you, you. Your essence if you may. All humans are brothers and sisters (not in the genetic type) in the sense that we are all one. We can change the world for better, or worse. We should never fight, but only love and help one another.

When you say "not someone", do you mean that God is not something in existence, but is either a force or an ideal?

If so, to some extent, it sounds like you should consider Advaita Vedānta, and possibly Reconstructionist Judaism, and maybe some Pagan groups.

What is the afterlife, in your opinion? Reincarnation? One life? None? Something else?

I think it's the way our actions during our present life affect those to come.
