Myth: People are Fleeing California

Turns out it's still not true that people are fleeing California in droves.
For one, while residents are moving out of state, they are not doing so at "unusual rates." Similarly, the research found no evidence of "millionaire flight" from California and notes that the state continues to attract as much venture capital as all other U.S. states combined, despite the recent exodus of Hewlett-Packard and Oracle.
The report did reveal net migration out of San Francisco during the pandemic. However, about two-thirds of people who left the city remained in the Bay Area, while 80% stayed in California, which is consistent with earlier trends.
The myth of "millionaire flight" from California, the project also found, is just that — a myth.
The survey also found that, by a two-to-one margin, Californians still believe in the "California Dream."

California economy is doing twice as well as Texas and Florida's, one of only reasons to leave Cali is for you're some kind of right wing nut job

If I leave it would be for better health care and employment opportunities (Canada) or because of the air (it can get pretty nasty here).

It seems that the only quibble is about it being "droves" or less.
Excerpted....

Can we trust an article with a really annoying punctuation error
at the beginning? <snicker>
It's just a continuing trend I've noticed since I moved here. People swear that Californians are fleeing the state, but the Central Valley is exploding with tons of people from LA and the Bay Area, and the article supports my observations.
There's also a lot of other myths I've heard just before I moved here, but I don't really remember many of those as this has been the consistent and persistent one (along with taxes, and people even argue with me that I am paying more in taxes here even though they aren't doing or paying my taxes. And it was really funny once when someone here checked the numbers out of curiosity, and I was right).

I'm not surprised that some CA areas see emigration
to other CA areas. (The bay area has been in the
news recently....not for good reasons.)

All those homeless in California must be Republicans then.

That explains things a bit.

There is a higher than usual number of people leaving L.A.

There are a number of reasons but as someone who has been there probably because it is a hellhole. Not in the way Trump calls Mexico a hellhole. I mean being in the proximity of LA is poison to not only the body but the soul.

I don't believe California is real. There is no mention of it at all in the Bible.

I know but I looked for Texas in the bible but I must have the wrong translation but considering how many Californian's have moved here to Austin Texas I have come to the conclusion that California is real and it must be listed in one of the lost scriptures like those recently found - The gospel of Mary and The gospel of Thomas. I am sure we will uncover the The gospel of California - you know the one that says " And god shall draw the fault line and call it San Andres. And god will separate California from from the ..." with the rest of the gospel tantalizingly falling apart making us wonder. Lets face it Texans have been wanting to separate from the US since it jointed - as if that will ever happen.

Maybe it is only a myth.
Although, it’s just anecdotal evidence, I know ten families/couples that have moved out of California in the last few years, besides my husband and me. One couple that moved from the Sierra foothill area around Oakhurst said they could not even get a U-haul to rent because none were available.

I’m a native Californian. My parents and grandparents were, also, but I don’t miss it. Glad you’re happy.

Some are leaving, but to hear the way some people go on about this exodus from California you'd think there'd be hardly anyone left.
And I often meet people from all over here, especially when I was in Bakersfield.

Awe! If everyone started to leave the land price would dive. It might even become affordable. :(

I think that's why people were excited to hear about a flight from Cali. They were hoping to get a cheap deal on land.
