The Sikh greeting of Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa; Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh is also expressed formally the same way - as is Sat Sri Akal
Both IMO have ties to Advaita philosophy as @Aupmanyav and I have agreed on
As to bowing - I only do that to a copy of the SGGS - and thereby is a conundrum - I carry the entire content in an app on my phone - so do I bow to my phone? If yes - how often? since I use the darn thing all day
But back to the bowing piece I am in the camp of not bowing before anyone - I even had a terse discussion with my own father when I was getting engaged and flatly told him I would not be touching my in-laws feet
I - for the record - never bowed or touched the feet of my parents even
But that is just me
