Tool, Karnivool, Ghost (BC), The Doors, old Manson, some King Crimson, Rishloo, A Perfect Circle, some Alkaline Trio, a little RHCP, maybe more? Ironically, this may as well be a list of favorite artists...

I'm on a hardcore Karnivool kick since Asymmetry arrived, but Tool just can't be topped for how much they've affected me.

The shakuhachi has an association with zen; because of the Fuke sect. It is an instrument mentioned by, and probably played by, the poet and zen priest Ikkyu.

I particularly enjoy the two volume set by Kifu Mitsuhashi.

I just got Seals & Crofts Greatest Hits. They are Baha'is, and their music reflects it. Tell me some music to listen to that reflects your beliefs.

Such an interesting question for me at this moment as I have just been attending a music festival! I heard several groups today, Midday Veil and Tamaryn, that had a dreamy, mystical quality to their sound. It was the kind of music that transported me into the spiritual realms, bringing up images of various kinds. It got me to thinking how music can be used to spiritual ends.

I am also a great fan of Josh Garrels, a hardly known contemporary Christian artist. Here is one song by him that has a hypnotizing quality to it:

Puscifer/Tool

But the fanbase is absolutely filled with pretentious idiots who think they are holier-than-thou for listening to Tool or Puscifer drives me nuts.

jai jai wonderfull

he sings krsna bhajan also...

Indeed he is really something. My wife had the good fortune to see him live ... at some temple in India. I guess he has a great sense of humour that comes out between songs too.

There are plenty of music out there that resonates with me spiritually. A lot of the time the connections are pretty personal and hard to explain to someone else. Bands that chime with me more often than others include Moonspell, Tori Amos, CMX and Gothminister to come extent. I also listen to Celtic/folk.

Here's one that captured me against all logic. For me the lyrics convey some of the awe I feel when I come in contact with the divine. It's often a mix of familiarity and fearsome strangeness: "Bow my head to the almighty, I have lost my way".

Life has showed me the way, I need no Priest or some temple to pray
Wholeness, comes from within, I bend knees not, I rejoice in my sin

Church of One, Church of One

Satan is a part of me, I am the Devil you have to believe
Aligned with only myself, Solitude has become my true wealth

Church of One, Church of One

Hail Satan! Hail Thy Self!
Praise the Power! The Power Within!

My Unholy Dark Half, makes me complete
I shall never bow, before their Almighty's feet

Banish the thoughts of the lamb. Covenant of the wolf and the ram
Hermit or a madman? If I am wrong, I will surely be damned

Church of One, Church of One

Hail Lucifer!
Dark bringer of light
Hail Lucifer!
Giver of eternal sight

Wisdom bringer - We call upon thy name
Bestow upon us thy infernal blessings
Of the inner divine flame

Open our eyes Mighty Father
So that we may see
Guide our steps on the Burning Path
Of liberation and ecstasy

Titanic Prometheus - God of forbidden light
Your Black Flame we bear inside as a legacy of your might

Illumination's father - God of shadowless light
Black Sun of dark mysteries - Restore the dragon's sight

Mighty god of darkness
All salutations to thee
Your gift of knowledge and rebellion
Will set our spirits free

Lylusay Tateros Volt Sids Lucifer!
Lylusay Tateros Volt Sids Lucifer!

Open our eyes Mighty Father
So that we may see
Guide our steps on the Burning Path
Of liberation and ecstasy

Mighty god of darkness
All salutations to thee
Raise the hidden flames within us
Into chaos set us free

Master - Typhon - Apophis
Dweller beyond the seven stars
Crowned red king - Set-hen - Amam of the eternal black skies
Thou art the rayed one - Erbeth - Saatet-ta
Lord of the shining force of night
The Wrathful majesty - Bolchoseth - Hau-hra of anti-cosmic might

Calling upon thee amidst the chaotic angles
I'm praying that thou, o ancient one,
Wilt deign to bless my Satanic magic
And to bestow upon me thy Acausal light
O fiery lord of the black sun,
I seek the bloodstained grail of gnosis
So that I may crush the archons' cosmic lie
Break the laws of Maat
With a glance of thy all seeing eye

I invoke thee, possessor of all hidden keys
God of the unknown and the lawless ecstasies
Initiate me, thy most faithful child
In the darkest of mysteries and all pleasurable crimes

Xeper, Xeper-I-Set
Xeper, Xeper-I-Set
Xeper, Xeper-I-Set

Xeper-I-Apep

I am the cruel one, Isfet lives in me
I am the power and total victory
I'm the murderer, who refuses to submit
I am the opponent, the sworn enemy

I invoke thee....

I become thee,
I am one with he who grants me the freedom which I seek
The tunnel of darkness reveals the light
As I enter the desert - The desert of Set - The kingdom of eternal night!
