Surely this disproves the existence of a benevolent creator?

Only in your paradigm.
God never intended for mankind to live separated from him; he made things so that we can not - whether it be natural disaster, illness, old age.
Unbelievers say that this is evidence of no God; I say it is evidence of man having chosen self-rule with all of the packages this includes. You cannot have your cake and eat it too; you cannot say to God to get lost, and expect him not to (get lost). He gave us what we wanted, and now atheists complain about it like small children complain when they say 'I'll do it myself' - and fail.

No, it does not. We screwed it up, God is simply letting us deal with the consequences. Sin entered the world, and when it did everything went haywire.

Pretty straightforward: God is not omnibenevolent according to perspectives within time. What that love entails is not visible from any singular perspective, at any time.

In a 'spiritual universe' a tsunami, a poisonous spider, an earthquake, a famine, can be regarded as an 'evil', just like a bunny rabbit, a fine summers day, an ice cream can be regarded as a 'good'.

Evil implies malicious intent. Weather and seismic activity can't be evil, nor can animals merely following their survival instincts.

humans must learn to coexist with nature. we must learn to deal with natural phenomena.
