You're quite welcome Taahir, it is my pleasure to try and share what meager understanding I have it is my sincere hope you find some worth in my words.

On of my favorite surahs is Ar-Rahman and this is one of my favorite recitations

Surah Rahman - Mishary Rashid Al Afasy

Another thing, please don't feel overwhelmed. I have provided you with links and books in case certain things appeal more to you than others and you wish to read them first. Don't feel like it is your duty to read it all now. Islam is a religion of moderation it did not demand from the companions to abstain from alcohol immediately but step by step until the evils of alcohol were apparent and the beauty of Islam and its lifestyle was apparent.

Thank you for understanding brother. I think I really need to get in touch with my spiritual side again somehow. I'm going to try to find a spiritual shaykh around me Insha'Allah.

Salaam Taahir, I wish you the best inshallah you will find a helpful shaykh near you.

I also remembered a book that I thought might interest you. It's called The Road to Mecca by Muhammad Assad (the very same who authored the influential translation of the Qur'an). It is the story of a European Jew who, after rejection institutional religion, becomes a Muslim. He travels to the Middle East during a time where the borders were just being defined meeting pivotal leaders and witnessing pivotal events. It is a very well written book with a strong sense of adventure and wonder, but the main appeal I think for you (as it did for me) is that this is his spiritual journey into Islam. He writes beautifully and shares tremendous insights that helped me immensly when I was feeling uncertain in my faith and seeking a greater closeness to my faith.

Here is a PDF (by the way for these pdfs I would suggest you download them from the linked pages onto your computer if you haven't, it takes a lot longer for your computer to load the pages from the internet)
