Needing to Find a Religion

Arianna

Religion Seeker
Well, why don't you type them out in this thread Arianna,
and then we can help point you along from there?

This will most likely come out all jarbled but here it goes:

I feel most connected to the nature religions. I value kindness and respect. I like people with open minds. I enjoy helping others. I'm fond of rituals and believe in magic and the "supernatural". It warms my heart to be around others that express love and joy. I believe more in the lessons that religious texts teach us than the actual stories in these texts. Part of me likes dark and forbidden things but I don't see that having anything to do with religion. I also don't want to have to change my eating habits (I like meat too much). I appreciate a hierarchy. I respect my elders. I obey the law. I'm good at following but not too great at leading. I don't feel I'm anywhere close to reaching my full potential as a human. I like learning. I love all animals and all things in nature. Except bugs. *shivers* I hate bugs.

Anyway, there's probably more but I'm half asleep and that's all I'm coming up with for now.

Ok. :) .... let's see....

First off I should mention UU I suppose.
That would be Universal Unitarians.
You can most likely find a UU fellowship/church
in your area, so that is good for instant community.
You won't find "hierarchy",
but you will tend to find open loving people
of all different paths (including pagan),
in an organized interfaith/interphilosophy structure.
UU is extremely GLBT supportive.

Next, I guess Wicca comes to mind.
Again no hierarchy.
And maybe harder to find real life fellowship (coven)
than with the UU church?

Thus I recommend for you Arianna....
UU first...
Wicca second.

You may actually meet some Wiccans
at your local UU. Who knows?

The great BlackLightMaga has spoken.

:D

Hope that helps some.

Welcome to RF, Arianna! We have quite a variety of vintage and late-model religions to choose from. Just let me know what payment you are looking for, and I'll go talk with my manager.

Hello All,

I'm new here. I'm looking for a religion that fits me. I was raised as a Catholic but have decided that's not the religion for me. I'm very interested in Pagan religions as I believe in magic and the supernatural. I miss the sense of community that religion brings. I appreciate nature and rituals and would be open to any suggestions that anyone has.

Thanks in advance,
Arianna
Why would you want to restrict yourself to any particular religion? Nothing is stopping us from considering all religions as our heritage and moving about all or any number of them as we want, allowing its cumulative effect to mould us as it may. Welcome to RF!

You can be pagan....

without being a specific kind of pagan...

it all depends on what you feel you want and/or need

Why do you need Religion? Do you think it would be better than not having one or have you had somekinda bad experience ( apart from being Catholic ;) that drives you down that road ?

Welcome!

I'd be happy to answer any questions about Unitarian Universalism for you (bad Vi got the name wrong! :p). If you're looking for community, it's a great one. Also, we're encouraged to figure theology out for ourselves, so if you also come to identify as neopagan, nobody will bat an eye.

It is what it is
If you feel you need a religion that's fine, but I'd also encourage you to to consider the pros and cons of remaining without one.

Welcome to RF Arianna! I feel most connected to nature paths as well & am still searching so I consider myself an eclectic Pagan for the time being. Like someone else here said you can be a Pagan without a particular religion. You might also like Wicca, so I would suggest looking into that as well. Just do what feels right to you. I don't know too many forums but there is a large Pagan community growing on YouTube of all places, so maybe you'd be interested in that. Also this forum has loads of threads on different religions..so it should be helpful as well. I hope you find what you are looking for :rainbow1: Oh and I just wanted to add that you don't have to change your eating habits..hehe :p

Welcome! I switched from Catholic to Paganism myself. If there is anything that I can do to help you along the way please ask. :)

First of all: Thanks again to the welcoming committee! It brightened my day to get on here and see all the comments from others. :)

Secondly: It's hard for me to express in words why I need to find a religion. It's more of this nagging gnawing sensation. It's like I have a hole inside me that needs to be filled. A yearning for that sense of community and purpose and belonging that I can't seem to find anywhere else. I know with every fiber of my being that there is some sort of higher power. It may be male, female, or multiple higher powers but I can sense it. I've witnessed many things "magical" and "supernatural" and many things that others would consider miracles. There have been many times in my life that I should have died but didn't. I feel I am here for a purpose and really need the guidance to help me figure out what that purpose is. I also want to give thanks for the guidance already provided to me. I know I can worship whatever on my own but it's just not the same as being surrounded by others of the same faith.

Just some food for thought...
It is my belief that the best way to find something such as your path is to not look all that hard. I believe the right path will find you as long as you open your heart and mind. Allow yourself to be found. :)

I believe you're right. I also believe my path found me as a child. With no provocation at all from school, friends, or family, I found my interest in magic. But now that I know what I'm looking for, I just feel a need for a push in the right direction. Druidism, Wicca, and Unitarian Universalism have all been suggested by others closest to me in the past, as well as on here, and I think I'm going to start there.
