1) Being that I was just a meat eater up until now, how do I get off the meat addiction? I know it is sad that it kills living creatures and all, but it seems to have became a norm for me.
Don't try to control or stop this habit, because in this way you can never control this addiction.
Just fall in love with creator... That's all, rest love will do everything, True love with the creator is more than enough to stop this habit, or stop this habit for the sake of creator-- This is also called "Love with creator". But don't stop this habit for the sake of creatures. :)
Who are we to take care for them ? Creator is taking care of them since ages.
2) How do I avoid meat when my parents tell me to eat meat? I don't want to tell my friends or family that I'm a vegetarian, they'll laugh and mock me.
You must read some " True Love Stories" ie: Romeo-Juliet, Laila-Majnu, Heer-Ranja...etc. They beard so many things, troubles during their whole life time for the sake of LOVE. :D
Can't you do this much for the creator ? :)
And in case I need more help, if you are willing, can I get your permission for emailing you? Thanks much, I'll try to keep it in the thread though, but in case this thread dies early.
I think there's no need of any e.mail etc.. after falling in love with creator, Creator himself will mail you all the needy stuff through any source, ie: "He" can teach you through any TV serial, Stories in the books, Articles in the magzines... etc.
If still you want my permssion, than i can never say you NO. :)

I must ask. how you been with this? when are you starting to de-meat yourself some if I may ask? :D

Me? I'm not a vegetarian. I've had to cut out a lot of red meat as it doesn't digest as easy as it used to but I like a small amount on occasion. Being from Louisiana I also eat a lot of seafood. To be honest, there aren't a lot of vegies that I like to eat so there isn't enough variaty for me and I like a lot of variaty in my diet. Having traveled so much I got used to eating from a lot of different cultures so eating the same meals over and over again just doesn't work for me.

Now my wife is probably a Flexitarian, she eats mostly vegetarian but just can't give up cheeseburgers and veggie burgers don't work for her. She does like Boca chicken patties and east them all the time, the nuggets too.

I didn't understand why there was compulsion for such a thing.

People are afraid of what is different and Vegetarianism looks very different from the standard American lifestyle. Many parents don't want their kids to be different from themselves. I also don't understand it but there it is.

I actually meant Sum of Awe, but I should have specified

I'm not in the States, but I get the feeling you're right about that.
It may also be they have a big family (6 kids, plus a seventh who stays there every weekend).

Chicken nuggets and chips, spaghetti bolognese, and chicken curry being once a week (each), minimum, staples of their dinners.

Maybe that?

One of the things my mother originaly whined about was that I couldn´t eat what they wat and that I would have "special" food, and that that would be expensive and problematic.

edit: although I am an only child

Believe it or not, Americans can be worse when it comes to not wanting to change, but its a human traite rather than an American one.
