Nine Pieces Of Evidence That Confirm The Historical Accuracy Of The Bible

Dr. Bryant G. Wood's article from 2003 is not supported by any scholar and considered Pseudoarcheology - is a pseudoscience focused on the study or promotion of archaeology in ways which do not meet the basic standards of the scientific method.
This can definitely be swept under the rug.

Search mainstream scholarship it's just a vague story with no location, evidence and likely a myth taken from older similar myths.

Christians can't even decide if that was even a reference to homosexuality or to hospitality and the site and references to salt are vague and likely just a limestone and salt hill.

Josephus provides little confirmation? - "The Jewish historian Josephus identifies the Dead Sea in geographic proximity to the ancient biblical city of Sodom. He refers to the lake by its Greek name, Asphaltites"

Homosexuality or hospitality?

"Sodom and Gomorrah have been used historically and today as metaphors for homosexuality, although the widespread consensus among theologians and biblical scholars is that this association is incorrect.[7][8][9] The extrabiblical tradition linking it towards homosexuality emerged from the writings of 1st century Jewish philosopher Philo, who equivocated the sin of Sodom with homosexuality; before then, no exegesis of the text suggested a linkage to the punishment of Sodom and Gomorrah with same-sex attraction.

FIrst of all, the only "widespread consensus" that the Biblical accounts of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah are incorrect are among Biblically-challenged liberal theologians. Conservative theologians are in the opposite camp.

Second, there is a Biblical foundation for the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah to be sexual in nature. Jude 7: "In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire."

Third, Jesus (God Himself), instead of buying into the argument that Sodom and Gomorrah were only a myth, confirmed the reality of the cities - Matthew 10:15 - "I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day." NLT

And to close: "Those who attempt to explain away the biblical condemnations of homosexuality claim that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was inhospitality. The men of Sodom and Gomorrah were certainly being inhospitable. There is probably nothing more inhospitable than homosexual gang rape. But to say God completely destroyed two cities and all their inhabitants for being inhospitable clearly misses the point. While Sodom and Gomorrah were guilty of many other horrendous sins, homosexuality was the reason God poured fiery sulfur on the cities, completely destroying them and all of their inhabitants. To this day, the area where Sodom and Gomorrah were located remains a desolate wasteland. Sodom and Gomorrah serve as a powerful example of how God feels about sin in general, and homosexuality specifically." What was the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah?

I had no idea that you believed that Genesis was history.

Why should it matter that I believe Gods word is truth? The fact is that life in man came from God himself. The other is that the soil he formed Adam from was cursed when he fell.
Some people do not appear to study that which they need to know if to make an informed answer or ask a question in debate.[/QUOTE]

Why do you suppose Jesus spoke in parables?

Referencing Sodom and Gomorrah is like saying, "Remember the boy who cried wolf"?

Those of strong faith can still believe in Jesus even if they acknowledge that parts of the Bible are clearly mythical.

If you really believed the Sodom and Gomorrah myth you would be able to find reliable sources that supported you. Or you could quote from your sources where they supposedly found "proof". I went through this with another literalist years ago and his sources badly misinterpreted the evidence, and that was all. There was no evidence that supported his beliefs. I am betting that it is the same with you.

There is no evidence dedicated Bible bashers will ever accept.

There is zero evidence for cities of the plain. If you'd ever seen it, you'd know why.. Its a dismal place. And, there are NO TELS. No garbage dumps.

I've already provided significant geological evidence for the cities.

The Discovery of the Sin Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah-Part 2 | John Ankerberg Show

"Conclusion: When the archaeological, geographical and epigraphic evidence is reviewed in detail, it is clear that the infamous cities of Sodom and Gomorrah have now been found. What is more, this evidence demonstrates that the Bible provides an accurate eyewitness account of events that occurred southeast of the Dead Sea over 4,000 years ago."

Empty threats are just a joke. And people that rely on cranks only demonstrate a weak faith. Those of strong faith can still believe in Jesus even if they acknowledge that parts of the Bible are clearly mythical.

The term Gomorrah came from the Greek name for the land that means “a heap of manure”.

You are so mistaken. That is your flaw, not ours. The Bible is wrong again and again and you refuse to consider the evidence. You ,may not even understand the concept of evidence. Many theists really have no clue. Also pointing out where the Bible is wrong does not make one a "Bible basher". Once again it appears that you are fractally wrong.

A person that actually believed what they claimed would have provided evidence. All you could post was your normal denial and false accusations.

The eternal optimist!
.

Or so the video below claims
.

The List of Nine, which supposedly verify claims made in the Bible. (The narrator provides the relevant chapters and verses.)

1) A stone that confirms that Pontius Pilatus was the Prefect of Judea.

2) A tunnel was created under the city of David to carry water.

3) A clay cylinder describes how Sennacherib laid siege against various cities

4) A stone mentioning there was an Israelite king of the house of David.

5) A stone cites Omri as the king of Israel.

6) The remnants of a house was found that verifies the town of Nazareth existed in the first century AD.

7) A clay cylinder recounts Cyrus II declaration of human rights

8) The discovery of the pool of Siloam

9) A stone tablet shows the existence of the Hittites

Of course our young presenter in the video conveniently ignores all the evidence that disproves the Bible's historical accuracy, but this is to be expected. When cherry picking one never picks the "bad" cherries.

In any case, even if all nine of the examples are true, one can only say, SO WHAT? What's so amazing (as the narrator would like the viewer to believe) about historical events showing up in the Bible? Heck, even if the Bible was a pure fabrication from Genesis to Revelation, the fabricator would certainly have been astute enough to include historical facts to make the thing appear genuine---it's why counterfeiters go to such extremes to make their money appear real. In this case it's like expecting the viewer to get excited because the Bible mentions the Mediterranean Sea, or that the Sun sets in the west. SO WHAT?

Nope, it's stupid stuff like this video that fill the believer with unjustified confidence in his faith. Do Christians really need to be duped so as to hold onto their faith? . . . . . . . . . . . . . maybe so, but it's not pretty.

John Ankerberg is a charlatan. Ten Most Dangerous False Teachers In America

Some natural disaster left a mark on that dreary place and it became a morality tale.. There is zero evidence for Sodom and Gomorrah... not even 4000 years ago.
These attempts at providing evidence fall under disinformation: the mixing of truths with falsehoods in the hope that the falsehoods will also be accepted.

The struggle is real.

That's what "Bible" Archeology does.

Do you believe in the Grand Canyon?

Pecos Bill got lost. Some coyotes found him and raised him. When Pecos Bill grew up, he became a cowboy. He could ride anything from a horse to a mountain lion. To win a bet, he rode a powerful windstorm called a cyclone. The cyclone could not throw him off. The rain fell so hard that it created the Grand Canyon!

Muffled

Jesus in me
And many more will work hard to deny any reality that goes against their god myths.

I believe you are right and sometimes they get angry at me because I explode them. However those myths didn't come from the Bible but from men who did not understand what it said.

Muffled

Jesus in me
I believe Christians and probably all other religious folk are duped by their personal needs. Surely you'd agree that the beliefs of non-Christian folk are in error, and are being duped by them. AND, they would say the same about you. So it all depends on which side of the fence you're sitting.

And, of course, Christians depend on historical authenticity, as they see it. In fact, historical incidents are pretty much the basis of the Christian faith.

.

I believe that can happen but not with me.

I believe that can happen also.

I believe I say what is evident. Usually only God would know a person's motivations unless he stated them.

I believe I have not witnessed that. Christians tend to use the historicity to answer those who think the Bible is mythical.

I believe our faith comes from God. The historical events are helpful but not necessary.

I believe I have never seen either in the Bible.

Nobody would live near the Dead Sea.. Its a terrible place and has been so for 10,000 years.

The Dead Sea is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River.

Its surface and shores are 430.5 metres below sea level, Earth's lowest elevation on land.

It is 304 m deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. With a salinity of 342 g/kg, or 34.2%, it is one of the world's saltiest bodies of water – 9.6 times as salty as the ocean – and has a density of 1.24 kg/litre...
