Well, freedom of speech in most Western countries includes racist remarks. If you incite violence then you can be charged with a crime typically. Can't comment on Christianity's involvement one way or the other.
Also I have to agree that the Guardian was very unprofessional and it's decision to name the accused publicly like this is unethical imo.

No, but there are plenty of Muslim governments who repress minorities and/or kill non-Muslims & the 'wrong kind' of Muslims (either actively or permit it through inaction). Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain etc.

There's a difference between racist remarks and inciting violence. I mean hell anyone over the age of 50 makes the occasional racist remark without even realising it. I serve racists at my job everyday. I find racism deplorable, but I'm not going to cry for such people to be arrested for espousing an opinion. Even if it is racist.
If you cannot say racist remarks in public without being arrested then the OP is right. There is no free speech in the UK.

There is something you Muslims have to understand: you cannot kill or beat someone just because he said something that you didn't like or simply drew a cartoon of Muhammad. For example, if I said that Muhammad sexually abused a nine-year-old girl, I would be telling the truth. However, if I said this in a Muslim country not only I would be killed, but my murderers would claim that the fault was on me because I offended them. This is unacceptable. You cannot behave as if you were animals. If someone insults you, you can control yourselves. If you cannot control yourselves, you are the criminals.
