No seats for Muslim Brotherhood!!!

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, the largest opposition bloc in the outgoing parliament, said on Monday that it won no seats outright in the first round of a vote it said was rigged. It said a few candidates would stand in a run-off.
The Brotherhood is the main rival of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) in Sunday's elections, and its candidates run as independents to skirt a ban on religious parties.
The Brotherhood was contesting 30 per cent of the lower house seats after winning an unprecedented fifth of seats in 2005. The group said before the vote that it did not expect to repeat its 2005 performance, but its early estimate, provided before official results expected on Tuesday, suggests a crushing defeat.

Yes. First, they constitute an important part of the opposition. So their presence is important. Secondly, I don't disagree with the general principles they call for. So I have much sympathy towards their cause. Thirdly, if we indulged in our imagination and drew a scenario where they could win the majority of seats, this would mean giving freedom to formation of new political groups that advocate Shari'a based state and this would give a space for maturation of this view and its details and the work for it.

Very well thought , I agree. We say in Morroco something like : ALlahuma l3mash walal 3wara = Better to have 3amash ( dunno the englsih word lol) in the eye, than being totally blind.

Boo-h!
There is no democracy of course, this is just a bad joke.

Funny thing is that Muslim brotherhood had 88 seat in the last parliamentary period compared to 0 seats now!

They decided to quite the elections, so did el Wafd party.

No one is better for Israel than Mubarak, so he must win by any mean lol, but still America has to play the game and say:

"We are really ashamed of the non democratic way the Egyptian elections followed"

But at least we have one happy new on a totally different elections where Hassana Watara won the elections at Cote d'ivoire , Yaaay :)

I'm not surprised that the brotherhood won no seats in the first round, but what really surprised me is the results of al Wafd...You know, before the elections all opposition parties reached an agreement to boycott it, including the Muslim brotherhood. But Al Wafd broke it and declared participation, as a result the brotherhood decided to participate although they know that they wouldn't win much seats as the previous parliament, but rather their aim is to reveal the fraud and terrorism of the ruling party... It is said that Al-wafd made some sort of a deal with the NDP, participation for more seats to Al-wafd..But the official results of the elections mean that perhaps there were no deal, or the NDP deceived Al-wafd that's why they decided to quit the runoff!

The Egyptian parliament of 2010 reminds me of Sa'eed Saleh in the play "el 3yaal kebret" the school part, he found no one in the school so he decided to be the student, and the teacher!

No opposition parties, and most of the accountable ministers are the members of the parliament!!!!! What a joke!!

I saw it on Alarabia (it is not a reliable source), so I searched it and it was true, but the man was kidnapped and forced by the NDP to join the elections so as to give some legitimacy to the parliament...
Run-offs update: NDP makes last-minute deals to save face, say observers | Al-Masry Al-Youm: Today's News from Egypt
Brotherhood denies kidnapping candidate prior to runoffs
The ruling party compelled one Muslim Brotherhood contender to run in the second round in order to guarantee Brotherhood parliamentary representation, according to rights reports.
Surprising? Not at all!!

Side note: Sajdah, the second link is about another incident.

No, Sahar it is about the same incident, but from the NDP PoV!!
And from the second link the brotherhood candidate Magdy Ashour denied those accusations:
Magdy Ashour denied that he was kidnapped by the MB and confirmed El-Katatni’s statement that he had traveled to Alexandria to rest.
