No such thing as rape in marriage

A lot of old people have old fashioned ideas, I bet you wouldn't have to look very hard to find a non Muslim guy of a similar age with similarly disturbing ideas.

2 things struck me from the article though.

A senior Muslim cleric has been condemned by police and other Muslim leaders for claiming that there is no such thing as rape within marriage.

British law was changed to make rape within marriage illegal in 1991.
Looks like this guy is 20 years behind the times

Which isn't far in terms of history. As barbaric as his statements are, his opinion was a common one among Christians until very recently.

Guess being younger I've never really been exposed to people thinking stuff like that is normal.

Don't be too surprised.

It hasn't been very long in the US either; NC didn't outlaw it until 1993. There's still some jurisdictions in the country that seem to be unmotivated to prosecute it.

Marital rape is disgusting. However I agreee with Monta - it is not only a problem for Muslims.
Irish Examiner - 2006/01/31: Women’s groups encourage marital rape victims to come forward

Ireland doesn't fare much better than the UK in regards to this, only recognising marital rape as a criminal offence in 1990, which is made all the worse by the fact that there was no divorce in Ireland until 1995, prior to this women who left abusive partners were in an untenable situation.

Oh Christianity, is there no limit to your wackiness?

As others have said the common law basically agrees. I'm normally a defender of the common law but not in this instance(though how you could get a successful prosecution I'm unsure of.). In the common law the marriage vow was taken to be a permanent expression of consent.

What is fascinating, in a macabre way is that in all the cultures that could not conceive of the concept of unwanted sexual contact between a man and his wife being rape, if the same man bought a cow he would be condemned for forcing it to have sex with him.

Technically I don't think he would. He would be condemned for having sex with a cow, it was not the material welfare of the cow that was the main reason behind this prohibition though.

It's still a sorry state of affairs when your milk cow has more legal protection from rape than you do.

Near as I can figure out, they just twist scriptures to support their prejudices. But that is done in every religion, it seems. These "scholars" would be idiots regardless of which religion they were "scholars" of.

You're tight.
I can take you to more than one place such place right here in the USA.
