The correct term is goondas not goombas. Goondas or gang enforcers and thugs is a term that comes from India, actually the term thug also comes from India and refers to the sect called thuggies who worshipped Kali by strangling people (many members of thuggies however were not Hindus but Muslims Parsis, Sikhs, even a couple of Christians and many religions, and did this strangling with a special cord designed for the purpose).
