Non-Muslim Seeking to Learn More

Kenaz

I Am
During these times of fear, I would like to take it upon myself to educate myself, immerse myself, and learn more about Islam. What do you recommend to someone such as myself?

A few things that come to mind, as of now:
-How can I get a Koran (free, if possible)?
-How do I find a local mosque? What do you recommend when I look for one to have the most educational experience?
-Any other thoughts?

Thanks for your time!

First of all, kudos to you for taking the time to learn about something you might now know enough about. I really admire that. Secondly, try a Google search for a local Mosque or gathering place. There should be some contact information and send them a similar message to your OP. Outlining your curiosities and eagerness to learn. Something tells me they will be very receptive to your questions and will help you. :) Good luck!

Hi Kenaz, welcome to the Islamic DIR.

As a Muslim, I appreciate that you have gone out of your way to learn about Islam in these troubling times. As a sing of my appreciation, I will pay for a copy of the Qur'an for you. I think the Sahih International translation is better than the rest, I use it as an English reference myself on this forum. (we can chat through private message if you are happy to give me your details, honestly no scam)

As for a mosque, being a Sunni who follows one of the 4 schools of thought (which the majority of Muslims do), I would suggest you go to one of these. A simple google search would probably get you some results, I can then have a look at their websites to see what group/sect they belong to.

If you are fine with reading an ebook I would suggest the life of our prophet, you will get a lot of the basics and foundation of Islam through it. I would suggest The Sealed Nectar which you can download for free.

Peace be upon you.

a---From Ahmadiyya-Muslim point of view [who believe the latter days era of 1000 years is in progress and the promised-by-Allah-and-Holy-Prophet (sa) servant of Islam has come]:
You will get all you need in various sections in
www.alislam.org

b---The other thought, as you asked, is to do personal prayer to God for direct guidance too.

May God bless you and everyone. Aameen.

Hi ,

I agree with Quetzel I admire the fact that you are taking the time to educate yourself about Islam.

There are different organisations that will send you the translation of the Quran for free.they will also be able to send you some other books regarding Islam. You can contact them by email or phone

www.whyislam.org ( USA)
www.onereason.org
www.iera.org (UK)

In regards to learning about Islam I would recommend these websites they have free ebooks but also articles, youtube videos if you prefer that.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask :)

Thank you all for the responses. It sounds like I will just need to do some research on my own, and despite my thanks to those who offered, it appears I can find a Koran without anyone having to pay. I appreciate it.

Welcome Kenaz

- For a good translation of the meaning of the Qur'an, you may wish to try the Sahih International translation.

It is available on-line at this URL: http://www.quran.com

- For a good local mosque, it really depends where you are located.

But you could try to search the Islamic Finder web site: http://islamicfinder.com/

Wishing you a good educational journey.

Anytime you have questions we could help with, please feel free to post them and we will do our best to answer.

Peace and all the best.

Hi Kenaz, I can see you have already received a lot of responses, my only suggestion would be to start by reading about Prophet Muhammad PBUH, via the great texts on his life. It would be more beneficial at this stage than reading the Quran, some verses which may not make sense to you without the proper context or even limited understanding of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. So just take some time to study him.
