I get that he has to pay for the overhead of keeping the site up, but having ads as intrusive as these is just bad. That's my honest opinion. I can handle one or two, but now, ads are at the top, bottom and side. That's on desktop. On mobile, I have to scroll through 10 ads to collect my thoughts and continue my post. It's cumbersome. Plus the ads that have video sucks up bandwidth and cpu. Bandwidth is not free. It just makes the experience worst when I'm fighting to type my thoughts down against the advertising.
So glad I have an addblocker and Java disabler. It's a bit of a pain and hassle at times, but so very worth it to never see a single ad on the net.

As a web developer in training, don't disable Java! We aren't all corrupt! I am but that is besides the point!

Facebook pretty much ensured the Java disabler remains. It does give me the option to permanently or temporarily allow java from certain sites though, which lets me cut off bots, ads, trackers, and other obnoxious things that slow me down (my internet isn't that fast) and make it easier for advertising firms to find out what I was doing, while letting me use just what I need.

That is the one downside, Java is pretty cool and can do a lot of things. Trade off is it can drain resources and slow down the system.

That it is. I used to enjoy learning a lot of the cool stuff you can do with it when I designed websites. But "cool things," especially when dial-up was more common, tended to have to be light and sparingly used by necessity. Now there are so many video and animated ads and other things that my school laptop (that I don't have Adblock/NoScript on since I do research on the computer and visit a ton of different sites) is much slower on the internet at home than my main computer.

If you're using Chrome just get the extension. It doesn't have to screw with the Java which is so cool on xenForo. If you're not using Chrome, go get Chrome. :D :D :D

But again, seeing ads is not such a bad price for our fun. I even try to click on an add or two a day since they only get paid on clicks. RF can't ask you to do that, but I can. :D

Not every flash or Java app are intrusive as these ads. My trick is to stop going to sites I dont like instead of manually enabling/disabling these tools.

Hi Folks..

Whats the problem..??....So - if we dont like ads - then simple - join and pay.... No more ads no more problems...

Or -you dont want to pay for whatever reason, but STILL dont like ads - then the answer is just as simple - dont click the ads - period full stop..lol...ignore them is all you have to do its really THAT EASY....lol...

Well I already mentioned my reasons for extremely hating these ads. At the very least... If they didn't consume so much CPU or hindered the interface so I can just type in my thoughts without interference then I would live with that.

What browser do you use?

I use "NoScript" on Firefox which can be a PITA sometimes but it cuts down the crap. I can whitelist as necessary. And if it's one of those sites which sucks in 20 sites which sucks in another 20 which in total use every single common web language and I really really truly need to use that site, I'll use Chrome or Edge.

Am I not insufferable enuf already?
If there were an even lower status, I'd go for it.

Actually I am still trying to figure out how a non paying member is deriving nutrients at the host's (RF's) expense or how a non-paying member habitually relies on or exploits others and gives nothing in return to RF...since those are rather important parts of the parasite definition.

And yes...you are already insufferable enough....

Why was I complaining so much when I should have been using the adblock extension for chrome all this time?

I bet others are doing the same here that aren't complaining. I'll just voice this out in the open and see what happens because its easy to circumvent.

The proposition to pay and disable ads is just plain silly. That's like comparing this site to mobile apps. Is that the value that this site wants to put out?
