And the fears that Columbus would sail off the end of the earth originated where?
Your agument also is invalid for one simple reason.
The OT and NT were written at a time when a round earth was NOT widely accepted.
Columbus (and his sponsors) obviously did not have those fears to enough a degree to give up on his navigations, so I guess it was basically superstition from those who did not know much about navigation - and had no access to greek and nordic knowledge that pointed towards a round earth.
Maybe Columbus did not have that info either, mind you. I really don't know.
Then again, it was also a far more elitist time. Who know who exactly might have learned of the idea of a round earth?
Can you post the Book, Chapter, and Verse from the Bible that says the earth is flat; all the times I have read the books of the Bible, I have never run across that verse.
Daniel 4:10-11 ...saw a tree of great height at the center of the earth, reaching with its top to the sky and visible to the earth's farthest bounds.
How can someone on the far side of the earth see even the tallest tree or mountain unless the earth is flat?
Matthew 4:8 Once again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their glory.
Again, how can someone see all the kingdoms of the world no matter how tall a mountain is?

I would think that is reaching.
How so?
A globe shaped earth woudl absolutely deny anyone from being abe to see the whole world from a mountain or tree.
From such a vantage point, hwoever, the earth WOULD appear to be disk shapped, which is also noted in the bible, and quran as well.
I still think you are reaching. And I thought only Christians took verses and interpreted the way the wanted them to be.
Well, considering the Bible is full of all kinds of other errors like suggesting that bats are birds I just wouldn't be all that surprised that the talk of "seeing all the cities" from a tall mountain and having "four corners" were referring to a flat, disc-shaped earth.
As far as I know, there was a Jewish word for "sphere" that could have been used instead of the word "circle" that was used in one verse to describe the earth.
Either way the Bible isn't important to me; just another collection of bronze age myths. If I want to read entertaining mythology I'll pick up J.R.R. Tolkien's/Christopher Tolkien's Silmarillion.
I still think you are reaching. And I thought only Christians took verses and interpreted the way the wanted them to be.
And God's standards are what?
What we can be sure of is a line drawn.
Some people go to heaven...many don't.
Now...I have met a few nay sayers...of excellent character...
and as I stand before the angels, I might well speak on their behalf...favorably.
The Bible is full of symbolism and metaphors, we all know that. If you don't believe in it, then you don't believe in it. And on top of that it doesn't actually come out and say "the world is flat".
Some books in the Bible are pretty good reading, even if you don't believe in it as a holy book. But everyone has different tastes.
There is a difference between "knowing gospel" and "preaching gospel." Usually, if you can't get a laugh out of the deal, someone's preaching.
She is very tolerant however, it seems as if her god is not.
i don't know where you get your ideas thief...
1 timothy 2:4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is ONE GOD AND ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND MEN, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all menthe testimony given in its proper time.
who are you to "... speak on their behalf...favorably."?
besides, if god is love then;
1 cor 13:4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
god doesn't keep any record of any wrong doing...
so...
we are ALL gonna party forever up in them clouds
You obviously have misinterpreted the Biblical message according to a very simplified construct. And that doesn't strike you as twisted? Desiring to torture those for all eternity simply who did not caress and nibble on his ego? How is that not petty and infantile? Why did he give humanity the ability to reason when reason naturally leads people away from the unsubstantiated and irrational? And why exactly would something that's supposedly an important truth be unsubstantiated and irrational?
