1. Alcoholism is an addiction, and an addiction is defined by loss of control. Alcoholics (or any other addict) can't "just stop drinking" by their own willpower.

2. The "inaction" referred to in taoism does not mean that a taoist does nothing (does not react to a crime taking place, for example). It means allowing one's self to respond to the world authentically and spontaneously, rather then acting in the world on behalf of one's own will and desire.

3. Not all Christians are religious. We don't have to follow any Christian religious doctrine to be an expression of Christ (God's love in human form).

4. I like people a lot, though I keep a respectful distance, most of the time. I don't believe that love is necessarily being expressed by meddling. I believe that love is often better expressed by respecting boundaries, and by taking people at face value.

This is a great thread, by the way!

Europeans, and Muslims in particular, do not base their political views in hatred any more than the average North American does. We equally believe what we do because we think it is right, and just - not that it will have a negative impact on our "enemies". For example, I don't care about Palestinians because I hate Jews. I care about Palestinians because they're human beings too.

Because a certain culture places an emphasis on beauty, does not mean the average woman is like Alicia Silverstone in Clueless. It's the culture, and it impacts everyone. The most independent, intelligent woman you admire - in a country like Bosnia, Colombia, Italy, or so on - would look no different than other women. Where, in America, she might wear all black and paint her face white - in Bosnia she'll wear knee-high leather boots and leave her hair a bit messy. But inside, she'd be the same.

Not all fat people are lazy. Sure, some just sit in front of the TV and eat, but most have jobs and work very hard.

Bingo, Danisty! That's exactly what I was going to say!

I was nowhere near that convenience store on the night in question.

My cousin Vern will swear I was with him the whole night. We went to midnight Mass....

Some folks are under the impression that the mods typically work alone. The truth is that most mod decisions are made after two or more mods have discussed the case and reached a consensus on what action to take.

I'll second this one and then add a couple of my own.

2. While some may, I am sure that most Druids don't run around naked in the forest, at twighlight, chanting to the Goddess whilst making love to a tree.

3. I am not bisexual to "shock" you. I am attracted to both sexes and am capable of loving both...that makes me doubly blessed, not a monster.

Not everyone from NY is from NYC.

Being a scientist does not mean that I do not have faith in God. Accepting the ToE does not mean I don't think God is the Creator. Having a largely metaphorical interpretation of the Bible does not mean I am less Christian than you.

Being a stay-home mom is not the easier alternative.

It is possible to be a Christian and a pluralist.

I'd like to second this one. Just because I dropped out of Uni and have worked at McDonalds for the past ten years, that does not mean I'm a drooling moron. Lacking a little in ambition, certainly; intelligence, no. :p

Scots are not a nation of tight-fisted penny pinchers.

Neither are we natural soap-dodgers (most of that lineage ended up in Australia :D ).

No, that is true. You are in fact one of the most unnatural soap dodgers in the history of the world.

Or at least since Tuesday last.:p

Even though I am an atheist, I am not angry with God nor an atheist just to spite God, nor am I interested in trying to disprove the existance of God (as such an effort would be in vain, anyways) or ridiculing or belittling those that believe in God.

Thats class, like David Frost who now works for Al-Jazeera made me laugh when he quoted a line that made him laugh and that line was:

THANK GOD I'M AN ATHEIST..

very good.

Thank you to everyone who has responded so far. I've been out of town and have no been able to respond. BUT my being out of town inspired a new one.

People from Kentucky are not all hicks, only .0000000000000000000000000001% have sexual interest in thier cousins, the Applichian accent DOES NOT mean the person is stupid. I'm not from Kentucky but my family is.

I want to thank ALL OF YOU for not debating and arguing about anything on this thread. This thread is here for the purpose of getting something out there you think is an injustice. THank you for treating the thread as such!
