Now I had to put my awesome cat to sleep today.

I meant Tchaikovsky 1812. My bad. Stupid search results mixed with my demented old age. Grrr.....

The gun just reminded me of the famous piece. :0)
It probably was. An indoor shotgun blast probably sounds like a cannon to listeners. Hmm, I wonder if they used birdshot, buckshot, or a slug. Clean up might be a problem.

If I weren't already depressed, I took my cat in for a URI recheck, and found she had lung cancer. Also I realized while I was at the vet that last night she threw a clot and her back legs were paralyzed. I have never loved an animal like this cat. She was like a dog. She was my shadow. I was not ready for that. She was only 14. Help cheer me up please!

From one cat lover to another: I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved kitty.

I don't know if it helps, but according to our current understanding: the past still exists though we cannot reach it. She's still there playing and eating her favorite foods. She's never truly gone. But you still miss her I know. I miss my dog sometimes. I also think I see her sometimes in various places, like where she prefers to sleep in the sun, sort of like a blink of her.

When I look out of the corner of my eye or hear a sound, I swear it looks and sounds like her. Take care.

So sorry, @Sand Dancer.

I have had to make that decision for several dogs, all beloved. The hardest part to me is that I have to make the decision for them. I can't ask them if a few more days of life would be better, despite the pain. The responsibility is all mine and I accept it gladly, just as I accept all the other downsides to pet ownership. But it's just so hard!

I'm not sure where I stand on some kind of "heaven" for pets. I do know that if I do survive death and can't be with Willow and Sophie (the most recent losses) and many others, I don't want to go, because it won't be heaven for me without them. I still feel sad for them and I extend that to your sweet friend.

All I can offer is that in my experience that sadness never goes away totally, but it never should. It does get better, that's all.

All, who have loved pets, know how difficult it is when these short lives end. Your cat enriched your life. RIP, little friend.

I had not seen our adopted half wild Siamese cat for a couple of days and was getting a little concerned. He came in the house and woke me up asking for food. There was food out for the other cats, but he still likes to eat outdoors.
