Why do you think that telling kids to finish school and work hard is topic-sensitive and provocative? Whose sensitivities are wounded, and who is provoked by such a speech? Those who believe children should drop out and be lazy?

But you dont seem to understand! He has no business and no RIGHT to use his elite status to try and influence MY child that staying in school and taking school very seriously is their responsibility!Just because he got elected doesnt mean I have to agree with him!The president of the united states has ZERO business im my childs school careeer! Thats MY child and MY business!Who does he think he is anyway..The NERVE of him!

And the fact that an ENTIRE 18 MINUTES will tick away when he could use those minutes to save our world just adds insult to injury!

I agree that I have no problem with the president visiting the class room and saying "hey kids..school is your job so take it seriously".

He's not just a "politician".He is the leader of 300 milion people.

I have no problem with the President of the United States taking classroom time to give a NON-POLITICAL message about the value of staying in school.

Everyone...the gov...the rep...the lobbyist...the school principal...that's right...him too.

I would hope that the school principal's do occasionally speak to the students. It's a part of their job. As for as representatives, lobbyist, etc., Look at how many schools have D.A.R.E., guest speakers, and Payton Manning even spoke about staying in school and doing good to my nephew's class. I remember when I was in grade school, someone dressed up as George Washington and spoke. My high school even had an anti-smoking speaker, and an abstinence only speaker.

If the principle didnt speak to the students he should be fired.

Anti smoking? They have drug law enforcement officers come in and show you what the different drugs look like ..they even had an "inscence" thing they burned that smelled like weed burning so we coudl be able to recognise if we smelled pot to "report it to an adult".

My son described his sex ed lecture as "guest speakers" coming in an telling a story about how "joe and jane" ruined their lives and their relationship by having sex.

GOD forbid the PRESIDENT of the UNITED States comes in and ENCOURAGES kids to take their education seriously!

He might even have the balls to tell them to learn to READ!

How DARE he interfere like that! He's A POLITICIAN for CHRISTS sakes he needs to BUTT out!

BECAUSE he is a POLITICIAN dude! Did you NOT get the memo????

Its NONE of his BUSINESS regardless that he is OUR LEADER! In fact that DISQUALIFIES him apparently! He is the LEADER of one of the most powerful nations of the world it is NOT his place to tell children to get an education!

He has MORE important things to do than that!(plus the kids are busy and its "disruptive" for the president to talk to them for 18 minutes)

Since I was last here the only reasonable objection someone managed to invent was the speech being too long (an hour apparently). Keyword being ‘invent’.

Reminds me of a farmers rally back in the early 90’s in our country where the following interview took place:

Interviewer: What are you campaigning for?

Farmer: Don’t know a shoite but we’ll get them anyway.

i read the full text of Obama's speech and found absolutely no signs of an agenda or any politicization, i think it's not any different than any other back-to-school speeches.

Even FoxNews of all places defended the president's speech in this news article:

...Obama avoids any partisan shots in his prepared remarks and instead encourages students to set goals for their education and to maintain focus in the face of life's challenges.

The speech was right on.

Basically a no excuse to not do your homework and you can become anything if you put the work in and dont give up even if at first you do not succeed.

You are the future and your country needs you.

I have ZERO problem with my children hearing it.
