Obama's Speech to School Kids

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
There's a lot more to an authoritarian personality than telling others/ being told what to do.
Didn't someone link to the book "The Authoritarians" somewhere? I'm thinking Sunstone, maybe.

If you liked the political compass quiz, perhaps you'd be interested in an authoritarianism quiz: The F Scale: Final form

LOL, my score was 2.73 - I am officially a liberal airhead!

F score: 2.23

The really scary thing, Auto, is how close the two of us are on the scores on both these tests.

On the first one, I rank almost on the center line in the lower right-hand block - about two small squares to your right on about the same horizontal line.

On the F quiz - I'm a 2.73.

Unsettling, isn't it?

mball, I believe you would be off the scale.
Please prove me wrong and take the test.

Just for you, Rick, I took it. I got a 2.5, actually. Quite surprising, although the whole quiz was horrible. There were only a few questions that were actually asked well.

Yeah, I'm pretty pro-free market and American values of democracy, rule of law, etc. I'm really not a radical at all.
It's nice finding out what you have in common with people with whom you also have differences.

I've moved closer to economic center and further down the libertarian line since the last time I took this test. Probably because of some of the ridiculous art awards I've read about recently.

F Score was a 1.76. Which I dispute because I do not consider myself a whining rotter but a snarling rotter.

Yeah, but that's OK. I think teenagers generally have an authoritarian psychology by default. In a perfect world, we'd all grow out of it.

HMMPH! *Crosses Arms* NOBODY TELL ME WAT To DO YO HOMMIE G DOG!!...its sad because thats what the majority of high schoolers sound like these days...only with f-bombs between every single word, and a f---in s--t thrown in there somewhere.

I like the f-bomb (I'm not going to use it since I'm not sure about the language restrictions). Not in constant use, but it is one of the best words known to the English language. Very versatile, it is the one word that can express an emotion instantly. Though I don't favor overusing it, once used in the appropriate situations, it is apparent that the F-word is one of God's gift to humanity.

Here's a nice video overlying the many uses of the f-bomb:History of the Word **** (CAUTION DO NOT CLICK IF YOU ARE OFFENDED BY THE F-WORD)

Yeh, but then they start thinking it might be cool to join the army, right? ;)

I would have thought teenagers were anti-authoritarian.

Part of the authoritarian mentality is a desire to be the boss in the boss crowd, and punish the out-crowd together. Of course they don't like being told what to do by their parents and teachers, but a lot of them will do pretty much anything to get on the good side of somebody "cool". Likewise, the ostensibly "grown-up" authoritarians don't like being told what to do by Obama, but they fell all over themselves to cooperate with Bush / Cheney.
