I love Germany, been many times,Hamburg is a place of beer and laughs and great wholesome food, the Hertz mountains beautiful and a different buzz but I’ve never felt unwelcome there wherever I’ve been.

Observations: Germans like their bottled water, especially with
"gas" (carbonated). So I asked for "stille wasser" (tap water)
cuz I'm a cheapskate, & I like to avoid packaging (even though
they recycle).

"Stilles Wasser" usually doesn't come from the tap, but from bottles as well. In supermarkets, carbonated water is usually sold in bottles with blue labels, "stilles Wasser" with red labels and "medium" (slightly carbonated) with green labels.

Environmental organizations criticize customers for buying "stilles Wasser" in plastic bottles. They say that you can drink tap water as well and so avoid buying plastic bottles because German tap water is controlled according to strict environmental laws which makes it as good as "stilles Wasser" in bottles, but many Germans prefer buying "stilles Wasser" in plastic bottles nevertheless.
