Losing Silicon Valley would be yuge economically. Though if California simply seceded, wasn't wiped out, I reckon Silicon Valley companies would just move out of California and to a different state.
Do the other states have large enough populations of skilled workers to do the work for the Silicon Valley companies that would leave?

The new Canada might be a perfectly nice environment for the Silicon Valley crowd to stay in, once things settle down. Of course both rUSA and expanded Canada will be a bit shell-shocked for a bit, so maybe some of the companies would just prefer to relocate to Europe or Latin America or East Asia or somewhere anyway.

Yes, suitable people from around the country would simply flock to wherever the new Silicon Valley popped up, not to mention skilled people already in California who could leave with their company.

For instance, when oil was discovered in North Dakota, and people started flocking there looking for work, the area was not prepared to handle all of the people. There were people camping in resident's front yards.

Last time you tried we kicked your butts. And we still have the same muskets we used back then, so watch yourselves.
Yeah, when we used to go up to Canada in the early 90's we always got hassled going in. Well not exactly hassled, but I think I had to answer that I didn't have any firearms at least 4 or 5 times every time we came in. (of course we were in a motorhome) with Idaho plates.

Disclaimer: under no circumstances do I ever want a mega earthquake to hit the west coast. The loss of life would be astronomical. The following is a hypothetical scenario only, based off what could potentially happen at some point in the future.

If a mega earthquake ever hit the San Andreas Fault and the west coast slipped into the ocean (I know, I know...that is Hollywood movie stuff), how would that affect American politics? No more California = 55 fewer electoral votes that always go to a democrat, not to mention if anything happened to Oregon and Washington as well.

I have no idea why I even posted this other than I just watched the trailer for San Andreas.

I need sleep...

Let's hope the US or foreign countries with the technology don't utilize anymore of their climate warfare or create anymore chaos from geo-engineering and underwater and on-land adventures. :). Who then knows what can happen.

If something destroyed California, the economy would crash and the US would fall apart. The US can't survive without California. It has a population and a GDP bigger than most countries.
