Offensive to Consult a Priest if...

Is it considered offensive for me to consult with a priest if I am not religious? I am having some personal problems and do not want to see a psychiatrist.

I can't imagine that priests of any faith would find this offensive. I believe they would welcome it.

No it's not offensive but be careful he doesn't convert you. Priests are kinda shifty like that IMO. Drop your guard for a second and BAM! you're a christian.

According to your proclaimed title and religion I find it difficult to believe you would want to consult a priest unless you suspect you are possessed. If this is the case then a priest is definitely a better choice then a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists of course do not believe in demon possession so therefore they are totally inept in such matter and will only medicate to attempt to suppress what they believe does not exist. Now THAT is insane, YOU, are not!
You will need to be patient as the Vatican has a very slow process in determining real demon possession. While you are waiting, stay close to loved ones and don't be afraid to consult with other spiritual people. If they are true to themSelves, they will not judge.
Sincerely, I wish you the best

Yeah very shifty!

I mean, who would have thought priests were in the business of religion.

They should be up front about their affiliation with religion!

You can... but understand that they will have a catholic perspective.

Obviously.

Why? I am not the Richard Dawkins type Atheist who despises religion with dogmatic fervor. Being I am an Atheist, I do not believe in demonic possession either, or demons, angels, goblins and ghouls. I merely respect Catholic priests.

If my will desires to be converted, then I will be. However, I have no intention of converting.

Many priests are also trained counsellors, they are also free of charge and have heard it all before. If you are comfortable with it I don't see why you shouldn't speak to a priest and any priest who won't speak to you is a priest you shouldn't be speaking to in the first place, so their is a natural filtering process.

Downside of course is that not all priests have counselling training, so you don't know what your getting.

Thank you Darkness,

I am relieved to see that you are not over-zealous about your beliefs and respectful of others. I do not believe in demons or ghosts either, though they may be "perceived" as real if ones belief is strong enough.
Anyways, my ponit is, ones specific beliefs are less important then being respectful of the beliefs of others.

Well done my friend!
